Hello all,

I appreciate everyone's help thus far, and I think all I have left to purchase are fenders and a reflective vest.

For the vest, I'm thinking the Nathan vest. I read some posts saying the orange hangs lower, but from overall experiences, is there much of a difference between the orange and white? And will I be able to use it while I wear a back pack?

Secondly, I'm trying to be as frugal as possible, and I'm thinking about getting the plastic snap on freddy fenders for my bike, since I wouldn't want to keep them on all the time. Does anyone know how they are, or is it definitely worth getting metal ones. (I saw responses to my previous post about this, but I'm looking for some more advice).

Thanks,
edward

DON'T waste your money on a "bike" vest, mate. Get a safety
vest from a store that sells safety equipment. The net is
full of industrial sources that have vests that are kick butt
bright and way more visable than any "bike" vest.

As to fenders all I've got to say is............E-BAY!!!!!

What about vests when using a backpack, what do you do then? I just slapped some reflective tape on it.

Forget the snap-on fenders;I've tried Planet Bike and Freddies. The only fender set-ups I've used that work are the full coverage ones and the mess I've got on my Giant(set of Topeak DeFenders with mudguards on the downtube and seat post). And why take the fenders off? There can be water on the ground when the sky is clear from lawn watering, etc. They also help keep sand and grit out of the chain and gears. And one of my yellow shirts has a berry stain from all those trees that dropped all over the place here in DC(mulberry,I think).

As for the vest, yeah regular safety vest,or just wear bright clothing. Alertshirt.com sells *bright* shirts that are made of wicking polly and they're cheap;less than $8 a pop. Or you could go to identi-tape.com and get some of their sew on hi-viz tape with reflective striping. Sew it onto your stuff, make a sash,or leg/arm bands.

Get the Planet Bike plastic fenders. They only weight a few ounces so I keep them on all the time. They come in colors too. :)
