Same People at Different Times?

Might the careless or otherwise misbehaving motorists so often vilified in this forum and ill-mannered or misbehaving cyclists occasionally mentioned be the same people in different circumstances?

Could it be that the peron who cuts in line at the check out stand is the same person who cuts in front of another car or a cyclist when leaving the parking lot?

Is the person who constantly interupts a conversation also be the same person who tailgates us when driving and rides their bike against the flow of traffic?

Could it be that people who are not civil in conversation, riding a bike, driving or otherwise behaving are just that kind of people and not actually exclusively drivers or cyclists as we seem to identify them here?

I completely believe that you're correct. That is why in another thread I mentioned that I don't believe any amount of PR will do any good to raise these individuals awareness of cyclists. They're too busy, too important, too late, too powerful, too smart, too ad infinitum to take the time to let others be more than a nuisance in their lives. Their lives are governed by the need to, at all costs, avoid what they perceive to be discomfort. Until they associate any of these actions (such as jeopardizing a cyclists life) to pain, they will continue their ways unabated.

It's funny I have had this opinion of humanity, for years now. I see people (not in cars) doing silly or dangerous things everyday and think to myself: They allow this person to drive a car. Just watch funniest home videos, and pretty soon you will realise that we are surrounded by idiots.

I was shopping last week after work, and when I went to put my trolley in the trolley return bay I noticed that one bay had ~30 trolleys backing halfway into the driving lane, the adjacent bays were almost empty. Now it makes me wonder what these people are thinking. If they keep adding trolleys to the same bay eventually it will cross the road. Then when they go to drive out they will think, why has someone put trolleys in the middle of the road, the supermarket should really employ more staff to stop this thing happening!

Yes, we are surrounded by idiots and they also drive cars.

Very probably, with the one major difference being that they can do sooooo much more damage with the weight of a car behind them.

Not really.

I'm actually a quiet person normally, but behind the wheel I shout abuse, cut into traffic, and call out 'Hello baby' to birds on the street (and other things). And I push open the door with my foot and never check behind for bikes.

I'm God's Gift to driving, you know.
