am I the ONLY person who wants as bright
a colored helmet as possible? like fluorescent
yellow or green? Sure it's ugly but it would
be WAY more visible, don't you think?

I can't find any on the internet, do they exist?

thanks,

They exist. Saw a bright green one today. Use to have a bright yellow one.

I saw a pair of riders touring the Michigan U.P. yesterday, wearing safety yellow helmets. I'm about due a new helmet and will look for one.

yellow or green? -- You are not the only one. I stick fluorescent tape on mine. I don't know why the manufacturers don't make day-glo neon colored helmets.

Stick reflective tape on yours.
Otherwise, get a light color. I have green/white, it's pretty visible. I also have a cateye el400 on top aimed forward and a planet bike blinker aimed backwards. They're both set to blink. Then I have a light & motion dual halogen system in front and a 19-LED niterider on solid in the back of my bike.

The Bell Citi helmet is available in yellow. Nashbar carries it, as do many online vendors.

Saw the Trek Sonic in bright orange the other day at the LBS. I got blue and will stick reflective tape/stickers strategically on it.

I get white, bike cops wear white and drivers tend to notice it more.

My old helmet was lemon yellow, and I really liked it. I couldn't find a good bright one this time around, but I may do some online searching.

What absolutely tore me was that the kid helmets were SO cool! I wished they made those in bigger sizes, because I'd be rockin' a yellow helmet with shiny green lizards all over it right about now, if they did. I'd have a hard time being convinced to take that one back off after I got inside!

Does anyone have a Bell Citi commuter helmet? If so, what is your evaluation? I don't commute (retired), but I'm considering it as a new helmet for recreational riding.

I have a Bell metro helmet which is the same as the Bell citi helmet, just a different name. I like it a lot for certain situations. It has some accessories you can get for it, a rain cover (I highly recamend it) that spaps on it, inserts to plug the air holes for winter (I recamend this), ear muffs (don't bother) and you can clip a LED tail light on the back. The visor comes with the helmet and you can use it or not. If its going to rain or if its cold, I commute using this helmet. If its not going to rain or be cold I prefer my regular roadie helmets as they vent a bit better. Fashion wise its a bit dorky looking as it sits on the head a bit oddly compared to roadie or MTB helmets but function is always the winner during rain or cold days. The helmet is comfortable to wear. I think the helmet was designed for more of an upright positioned rider which makes it perfect when I ride in cities on my urban bike and again its the best option out there in the rain and cold.

I decided to get a Giro Xen for my commuter helmet. Fits me very well and is a good rounded shape with good coverage, but without looking "dorky". It also has a detachable visor. The '05 model doesn't come in any bright colors, but I found a silver/blue trim '04 model on pricepoint for $90 (not a bargain exactly, but I haven't found a better fit besides my Catlike race helmet). The silver isn't quite as reflective as actual reflectors, but it's still very visible.

Why would anyone want safety colors on a fashion accessory?

you could always spray paint any helmet with waterproof safety paint from a hardware store. cheap and easy.

I think white is the best color for a helmet. White color is best for visibility at night (of course reflective is better). White has the potential to be cooler in summer sun.

My helmet is light-grey-silver. I wish it was white.

This was my first choice but it only comes in "one size fits all"
unlike the Bell Metro which fits me much better but does not
come in yellow! grrrr....

The Trek Sonic Elite is partially orange which is somewhat
better but not the electric puke green I'd prefer ;-)

I have enough lights & reflectors everywhere else, & wear bright clothing. I paint mottos on my helmet. I bought it for fit, odd sized/shaped head. Currently sporting my "Bite me Bush" motto.

does it corrode the foam if paint gets on it? is it important
to keep paint on the plastic portion only?
