Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - powdercoater in nyc?

anyone know a place i could get my frame powdercoated? know how much they'd charge to do it? know if i'd have to strip the frame first or if they could do that too? any leads appreciated

and there's some place in bushwick that has good turnaround times. somebody is sure to name it in the next 10 mins.

Ive talked to a few people about that place in Ozone park. The put adds on craigslist and after a few people get pissed off with them for destroying/"missplacing" their frame they stop posting for a while.

Id stay away from that place.

someone complained quite vocally on craigslist about that place. he claimed they took his frame, didn't contact him when they said they would, and were unreachable for days or weeks or some such.

some places offer wallnut shell blasting insted of sandblasting. its safer and shouldnt damage the chrome.

I saw that on one of those car reality shows on TLC..

I think your friend asked me for directions? Guy came out of the subway with a pista frame and fork in hand. I gave him a "what's up" as I passed him and then he asked me which way Metro was. Small cycling world.

Ok. I just called the place in Brooklyn and they said they the min. was $150.00. Its a bit pricy but if its good (im going to go take a look at some of the work they have done) Im ok with paying it.

They would also look into getting the glo powder so when the season is over I could get it done

thanks yo. lot of conflicting info here. i understood that it was possible to powdercoat but not paint onto chrome. does anybody have a DEFINITIVE answer to that one? i understand it will be necessary to strip the clearcoat (why do they clearcoat chrome anyway?), but was hoping not to have to strip the chrome because i was planning to leave the stays chrome and powdercoat the rest of the frame. why? figured it would look sexy that way and because y'all are such *****es about bianchi hipstas that you made me feel somewhat strange about the perfectly good bike i paid less than $400 for :P

spoke to him. said yes you can powdercoat over chrome if the chrome is in good shape but that you can't mask off specific areas (stays)because it leaves ugly marks (don't know why). it costs $60

$60's a GREAT price. Does that include bead blasting / prep of any kind, or do you need to show up with the surfaces totally clean?

i imagine that does not include prep. he said they can coat to good chrome for $60, which i assume means you have to make it good, ie get rid of any clearcoat/crap
