I have a Peugeot for 30 years that I purchased used in the 70's. I was told it is a PX-10, early 60's. The serial number is 576940. The fork tube tips are chrome, as is the rear frame ends. The frame lugs are decorative, and have been told they are Nervex. When I was young, I changed the wheels and tires from sew ups and added a wide ratio rear sprocket with suntour fingertip controls and derailers throughout. I thought I kept the original simplex derailers, but can't find them. Almost everything else is original. Stronglite 49/52 crank, Mafac forged brakes. It's quite a work of art.
Recently, I started to get back into backing and replaced the tires. Bike runs very well, but as I age, it is hard on my back, so I got I cruiser style bike, and I am looking into the possibility to sell the bike, but unsure what it's worth.
Is this a PX-10? What year is it from? What is the value?
Thanks for any insight you can provide,
Rob

I used to have a Peugeot PKN10 which I really enjoyed riding and toured Europe on in 1982. Unfortunately it got severely crashed in 1995 and became landfill (the frame only). The frame was Reynolds double butted 531, with another type of steel in the forks and stays (Vitus I think). Came with a Stronglight 104 crankset which I now use on an old Alan frame which I also really like.
The only "quelle horreur" on the Peugeot was the revolting Simplex rear derailleur which I used for precisely 7 weeks after buying the bike. I replaced it with a Suntour which changed gears Oh so much more quickly.

Oh, I'm sure someone here can scrounge up 20 or 30 dollars to get it off your hands...
Sounds like you may have a beauty on your hands! Wait for the real experts to chime in! :)

I'd need a picture. The six digit serial number suggests sixties. Sounds like a PX, but I won't make an id off a written description. Colour? If white and a PX10, no earlier than 1967. The main clues to date are colour and lug colour, plus decals. I can usually get them to within a few years, and with the knowledge/info on this board, it is steadily getting narrower.
The 52-49 chainring combo suggests very early 1960s; by the late 1960s, I think Peugeot had settled on 52-45 for the PA-10, PR-10, and PX-10. The chrome stays suggest a genuine PX-10.
Donald's description of the PKN-10 (successor to the PR-10) is apt, although I think the forks and stays are merely plain carbon steel, and the forks are visibly seamed (ugh).

Check out this catalogue. I just got a Peugeot and this helped figure out its a UO8...nothing too special, but a cool bike anyway. It's actually too big for me so I think I may sell it soon.
