Introductions - I'm Rigid

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hello, folks. By way of introduction, I am a 43yr old male from the UK, and proud owner of a nine year old Specialized Rockhopper Expert (the one with Suntour gears and brakes - the only one!). I'm just getting into cycling again after a nasty knee injury (both of them!) a few years back, figuring riding the bike is probably the best way to get my muscles back and have some fun into the bargain. I'd like to ride to work and back, but changing facilities are limited and showering facilities non-existent so there are a few practical issues to get out of the way. Not sure how to safely transport a laptop either, but it's gotta be done.
I'm looking forward to chatting about bikes, learning more about riding technique and maintenance, and maybe even getting my thigh muscles back. You never know.

Welcme to the forums!
Showering, isn't really essential after a commute in to work - a change of clothes, and cooling down properly before a quick wash and change should do the trick.
Have a browse through some of the Commuting threads.
Richard
I should point out that I wrote the above post immediately after the hottest July since 1989! I suppose a light sweat on a typical UK weekday morning is nothing to worry about. BTW, since my initials are also Richard D. I had a bit of a start when I saw your reply... Not Downs I assume?
My buddy cyclecommutes and survives without the use of a shower at work (and people still speak to him!), and he transports a laptop (or 2 ) as well.
He uses a special laptop bag which attaches like a pannier.
It is possible. get stuck in!
Hy Rigid!

If you don't mind carrying it on your back, Spire makes the best laptop carriers I could find. I've had the Meta pack for about 9 months and it works great. If you don't need all the extra room the Meta affords, it might be overkill; they have smaller capacity ones.
