I have searched the forum many times for a good priced website. I cant find a good place that has reasonable prices. All the places i have looked at only carry stuff like shimano DA or U or CAmpy stuff. I want stuff like tigana cranks or sora to build my IRO Mark V frame.
Any suggestions.
I have checked airbomb.com, nashgo.com, cambria bicycle outfitter, competivtive cyclist, excel sports, jenson usa, colorado cyclist. I found all these places using the search so i have searched the fourm before posting.
Ah, but you're missing Harris - http://www.harriscyclery.com
Nashbar.com is your friend. Not fixie specific, but neither is Tiagra or Sora. Also, head down to your LBS and see what they can order from QBP.

Qbike.com (http://www.qbike.com) is your friend. Just search for whatever part you are looking for.
The parts you listed aren't "fixie" parts. They're bottom-of-the line road components.

speaking of chucksbikes (and sorry to hijack), but has anyone ever used the "Vittoria Tecno Pro Road Tire" they have for sale? $18 is a great deal and they look pretty cool, but as always im concerned about skidding wear and whatnot.

I rode those for quite a while. No recollection of any punctures, but the grippy-gumminess went away pretty fast. Probably after around 500 miles.

At about 5.6 millimeters, it's a little small compared to what I'm used to.

nope, no problems -- shimano doesnt sell online through aebike so i phoned in and ordered. everything was as expected. they have a brick & mortarshop so its not some shady internet operations...

Seconded. There are no Sora or Tiagra track parts. If you're looking for bottom of the barrel track bits look at businesscycles.com. They have a wide range of prices from Phil Wood down to Suzue and Miche.

i think one of these days we'll have to help people realize that fixed may be simpler, but it's not cheaper, really. I'll admit that in the interest of saving $ I at first built up my bike with some parts that I'm now extremely ashamed of- like used deore cranks- in the interest of building it for under $300. Then I saw the light, but now one wheel alone is worth more than all the parts I initially bought.

Yep.
Good point, because i just realized that. I was planning to build a fixie for school. I thought it would be alot cheaper than my road bike, probalby could build for like $600 at most. I was wrong!!
However, I think i will continue to build because of teh fun and experience that I would gain from building one.
Cycles Gaansari has a nice looking assortment of fixed-specific gear at http://www.gaansari.com/FixedGearCatalog.htm
i am always stupified when people mention harris. they are consistently more expensive than other stores and never have what the site says that they have.
I've only ordered once from Harris - The Girl's set of cxp22/formula wheels from them. Quick, fast shipping and response ($170 for the set too - all black).
I mentioned it because they sell Sora cranks for SS applications.
Though I do prefer to order elsewhere. Though really I just buy everything from Yojimbo's (http://www.yojimbosgarage.com) or Performance. Nothing like instant gratification.

I think this really depends on your purposes. You can easily get all the parts (minus frame, of course) for a decent fixer for under $300. It won't be NJS, or any track specific stuff, but it will roll, and it will be safe (no suicide hubs).
I just don't understand how you can possibly pay the same or less for a geared bike; they don't give away derailleurs and shifters for free. So the only real place for the geared bike to cost more is on the rear wheel. You can get an IRO fixed rear shipped for $125 complete, or just the hub for $50, and build the wheel for around $75 total.

what parts are u looking for? most of the time its a mix and match of stores. IRO do sell cheap stuff for their bikes, including bb and cranks, pretty good for the value if thats what your looking for. Not much to be had if your really strapped for cash, business cycles have a good range but nothing I'd really call sora or tiagra grade stuff.

Well, I was just looking for a cheap alturnative to a road bike, something that is easy to maintain. The reasoning is that i am about to go to school in like 1 week and i have been ccyling everyday on my currently bianchi. I absolutely love it, its like my new drug.
After having the new bike built from teh shop, i was looking for some fun by building it from scratch. I want to continue riding, i go to school in ATL so its warm for most of the time i am there. Only for like 3 months its probably too cold.
I was looking to build or buy a bianchi pista. I was hoping to spend in the range of the pista.
These are teh parts i am considering and places:

a few suggestions:
-i think one of the big mail order (nashbar or jenson or performance) has ultegra double cranks for 89$...
-get tube at LBS
-IRO wheels come with lockring (for me, atleast)
-use old chain if you've got 1
-if you dont mind CX (top bar) levers, ive got 1 (possibly a seatpost, too)

why not buy the complete IRO for $550?
upgrade when stuff breaks.
if you really want to build it yourself, take it apart and put it back together again.

Why dont you just purchase a full ride from IRO? I dont think it will top out over 600 and you will have some cash for school. 173 dollars for books or beer.

I like going to Harris and buying stuff in person, but never again from their site will I order. They STILL have the french Sugino thin walled cups listed. I tried to order a pair a good 5 months ago, and when I did they told me they haven't had them for YEARS and expect to never see them again. Why the hell are they still on your site then?

Well my thinking was that i hate rebuying parts when it fails, I would perfer to get parts that last rather than somehting cheap. Because i mihgt be spending that $173 on parts when that time comes, then i would be out of a bike waiting for parts and repairs etc..

I couldnt find a BB that would fit the IRO frame. It needed to be 68x110mm. Thats why i went with Tiagra bc the BB fit.

World Class Cycles is awesome. The cheapest place to get a pair of Phil Wood hubs.
Like redfooj, I have an extra brake lever. Its a Cane Creek 200TT time trial lever.

i suspect sheldon does the harris cyclery website himself... i wouldnt exactly say to look his way for example of clean coding... harris' prices are high, but atleast the workers are knowledgeable when you need help
