What temps do all of you find yourself riding in. Its usually around 93-100 down here with an average humidity level of a little over 40...gets into the 80's and 90's sometimes. The heat index is of course usuallyl over a hundred and well to say the least... its hot out there. These temps run this high from about 10am to 4pm . Just wanted to know what kind of suffering all of you are/arent going through this summer.

Well, we can't compare to the heat of Mississippi, but in Montreal we've been having a very warm, sunny summer after a cold, crappy spring. We've had some pretty hot, humid days with temps in the upper 80s to 90s and it can be very humid. However, we've also had enough variation to make it bearable- some cooler days with temps in the 70s. ON brutally hot days, of course, you have to go riding really early or late in the day. It's actually been a really beautiful summer, weatherwise, although it got kind of dry for a while but we've had some good soaking rains, good for the farms!

The last few days have been very warm but not humid, however today a heat advisory is in effect.

Seems like highs have been in mid-90's for the past several days...plus the high humidity...heat indexes range from 100-115...and then today (and probably the next several days) an ozone alert...makes the lungs feel just wunderific...

Yes Washington DC area has been hot too.
Creeping around in the 90s with high humidity.
Really bites as I cannot bike in that heat. I am soooo ready for the fall!!!

expected high of 99 today (37 for you metric types) with
humidity in mid 40's heat index currently 101 (it'll go up, believe
me). Windy enough that we don't have any alerts.
I personally don't go out if we get to Red (air quality bad
to unhealthy), I just stay in and ride the rollers.

The heat index in the D.C. area has reached 110 over the last few days. It's hot, but I just keep moving on the bike to keep that (leaden) breeze going.

I'm in a desert in southern AZ. It seems a bit warm here at any temp above 105. Otherwise, it's pretty comfortable.:)

... and it's another beautiful winter day in Perth, Western Australia. Light showers this morning, followed by a maximum of 18 degrees celcius.

Like lotek said it's a steady diet of 100+ here. I usually head out at around 6:30 or 7:00 am for about an hour. I'm all bundled up in the AC by 8:30.

Imagine 3 weeks of highs around +14 - 17 (50-60's) then being dumped back into 90 - 95 (+30's) temps, humidity levels around 50 to 60 % and smog alerts. My lungs are suffocating. I got them cleaned out with the clean, cool air in Australia and now I'm having a very difficult time adapting to this weather. Usually, heat and humidity doesn't bother me. Aussie winters are to die for!

The weatherman said we've had 19 days of 90's this summer. But it's not the hottest summer on record.

On the way home from riding this evening, (7:45pm), the radio said it was still 95 deg. But I love riding when it's hot. No complaints here! :)

as long as it is dry....i can deal with any other weather.....bring on the heat. bring on the cold. bring on the wind. precipitation will prevent me from a ride (only because of the trouble of cleaning the bike afterwards)

All I can say is if we ever get some cool weather here in Fl. my speed and endurance is going to be through the roof. After a slow ride today in the midday heat I waited till the evening for the return trip(the beach tends to have that effect) .While the temperature was still 88 there was a nice breeze and I was in a groove making great time and not wanting to stop.I am beginning to realize just how much the heat slows you down but it is awesome for building endurance.

I've been in FL in the summer and it's insufferable. And I've been in DC when it's hot in may and the humidity is horrible. DC is not a city whose weather I would like - the winters look dreary and rainy, the summers oppressive. However, so far SF and Perth sound most appealing!

But I love riding when it's hot. No complaints here!

I love the heat too, the only time I don't is when I am sitting at traffic lights next to endless cues of traffic, creating even more heat.

Memphis is pretty crap. Highs in 90's, with heat index it's 100 or more. Humidity always seems to be 70% or higher. I don't mind the heat so much when riding, but when I'm in direct sunlight it's miserable. And god forbid you ride on a newly laid black tar street. You have the sun beating down on you from above, and the heat bouncing right up into your face from below. It's like riding your bike in a sauna. I can't wait to see what it's like to ride in the fall here. Ugh...except I bet the mold's going to be high. I love Memphis

Here, 90 miles down the coast from San Francisco, we've been in the 60s most of the week. I've been wearing long-sleeve jerseys and arm warmers with my short sleeves. For early morning rides I've needed my knickers. Today, I had to cycle five miles inland to find any sun at all. We'll have our sunny, warmer days in September, October, and maybe a bit of November.

Nice cool riding weather and the surf is up, too!

Well today I did a 30 miler. Of course the heat index was over 110 and who needed water bottles...all I had to do was "drink" the air for all my H20 needs due to the humidity:D. I ended up averaging a little under 19mph so not too shabby. Thats one good work out though.
And to those of you near San Fransisco,Lucky...

I decided to ride up two of the steepest consecutive hills here in town the other day (Bingham Hill, more like Bingham Hell). I went outside and thought, gosh, it's unusually hot out today. I took in so much water, panted and gasped my way across the hills, and when I got back home and took in more water, I saw on the news that it was 99 degrees here in Fort Collins! Aaaa!!!

But, of course, here in the Rockies, it's a DRY 99 degrees.

Then the next day, it dropped to 72. Like they say in Colorado, if you don't like the weather here, wait a couple hours ...

My car is 14 yrs old with 320,000 km - the A/C no longer works. On hot days I find it more comfortable commuting by bike than in the car, as the bike route is away from high density traffic, with a fair amount of shade from trees, and I get the airflow over me as I ride.

In the summers its always in the 90 with high humidity. In the mornings it really is not bad at all. I like riding in hot temps much better than cool or cold. Better on the legs.

How hot is it? It's hotter than hell on a summer's day during a death valley heat wave. Well, that's what it feels like anyway. South Florida on the ocean isn't exactly Death Valley but it was so hot, the other day I couldn't dust a jogger on a sunset ride. I'm counting the days till mid-September when there's a noticeable hint of the change of seasons.

During these hot days, are you riding the dawn patrol or during the sunset hours? I heard that riding later in the day was better for your body and the performance was better. I tried it and on the return, I practically bonked. It all made sense but it didn't work for me. This morning I took off at around 6:15 and I did a nice short 10 mile ride in better time than I've done in around 8 weeks. It's 10 degrees cooler at dawn than at sunset so that has to be the factor.

What has been your experience?

hey yall.. don't forget... actual temps on the road are always gonna be 10-15 degrees hotter than any "official" temps broadcast by the news. the asphalt really soaks up the heat, and radiates it back to you like an oven would. so on a 100 degree day... it could actually be 110-115 in the saddle!!!

also, please exercise alot of caution in high heat. ozone is really bad on really hot days... my friend and i developed some ozone-induced asthma last weekend on our overnight trip. they call it a "sunburn for the lungs". riding in traffic alot gives you exposure to tons of ozone, which is odorless, or kinda smells like "electricity". if you want a quick and dirty test to test your ozone exposure, after a long ride, inhale deeply, as deep as you can, and if you cough or feel like your lungs are constricted, or if you feel some kind of resistance... that's asthma. take it easy, and don't be so foolish again. you shouldn't sacrifice your health for the sake of your addiction to cycling :).

Also, ozone levels are lowest in the early morning. So if you have to choose between riding after sunrise or before sunset, go for the after sunrise ride. your lungs will thank you

Yesterday it was 90 degrees in the shade in Minneapolis with
high humidity.

Went on a 15 mile ride with my wife and friends and drained my
camelbak completely, filled it at a local park and nearly emptied
that one too.

We went riding down near the river but 9 miles in the ladies
decided to head back so it meant it was hammer-time for the
guys and it was not a real great day for that activity especially
since I had a big lunch. Nearly puked on that one.

Sometimes it's just better to ride in the early morning or
evening.

I'm on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Pretty miserable to ride anytime other than early in the morning or after sundown. Early morning is OK when the shadows are still long. Occasional cloudy days are OK too.

I do about 10 miles per day around the loop here in Diamondhead on a Fuji Roubaix-Pro.

What bike are you riding there in McComb and what sort of route?

The dog days are supposedly over but it's been hot as HELL! I took the day off yesterday and then went out today, at about 4:30- it was also windy but thank god, very low humidity. The temp was about 90f, if it had been humid it would have been unbearable. Saw a few other people out riding but no one was going very fast. It's also been getting very smoggy- tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter (about 93) with higher humidity and bad air quality. So forget it! It's either 7 am or take the day off. Fortunately, it's supposed to ease up later in the week- temps in the lower 80s.

Over the summer we have had a good number of weeks in the 80's. Some 70's, a few 60's, maybe a set of days above 90. The winter will be fun, when the temps will vary between 0-40 degrees :D I've never rode much in the cold yet, so I don't know how my lungs will react. But in general my lungs love cold air. My room is in the upstairs of the house and the air feels so much better to me downstairs when it is just 5-10 degrees cooler (72-77 average in summer I'm guessing).
