Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Anyone racing in Boston Saturday?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
As far as I know, it's not messenger-only like the last one (and the kid who's the contact on the flyers definately doesn't mess)...so who's up for it?
7-11 Race - $3

I might... if I can get out of seeing hamlet in the park but it's not likely that I can get out of that one... or if they are not doing the play this week.
oh and WTF is non-messenger alleycat deal? I've never heard of that... whatever.
Let's not start that argument....
I'm just mentioning it since the last Boston race was no non-mess'rs allowed, and some people got kinda up in arms over it. Now they better come and show their stuff.

I believe that was aimed at me.
C'mon, my ego is fragile. I can't actually deal with defeat in a ranked event.
Anyhow, I'll try to be there, but there's some chance that a prior obligation will take precedence. Further details as things develop on the home front.
Not just you, there were others who weren't too happy about it as well, if I remember correctly.
The race sounds like a good time, as far as I know, it's 5 checkpoints, all 7-11's.
i'll be there, and i'll be slow as ****

It'll be great, we can be locked in a dead heat for DFL. I might be a touch faster but I never know street names, just how to get to places I want to go.
So when it says hit the 7-11 on Charles & whatever, I'll be completely struggling to know where that is. (Ok, actually I cheated and I do know where the Charles St 7-11 is...more or less. And the Central Sq one. But beyond that...eh. Even Summer St took a bit of thinking to come up with an exact location.)
edit: Oh, and I know where my nearest 7-11 is, but I'm holding that close to the vest in case that's a checkpoint. ;)
I'm working a double, bummer. It'd be kinda fun to watch&chear a bit.
--Not to mess with anybodies Karma, but I don't want to be hearing of anybody hauled in here. Be careful out there&have fun.

Im debating riding this one. My bike is in bad shape, but the alure of competition and ultimate public display of just how out of shape I am is very attractive.
And Im still not sure why everyone is so heated about the last race. Definatly wasn't messenger only. Seemed to me that maybe half who rode were messengers.
Do we know the format for this coming race?
The last race was most surely mess'er only. "Past, present, not future". The only way to ride it otherwise was to be riding the R1.

Well that's what the flyer said but in practice there certainly seemed to be a bunch of non couriers. Having a race on saturday relieves the frustration of racing other people with fresh legs after having worked a full day anyway. Why wouldn't it be fun, you get to ride your bike all fast and reckless-like?
Well, maybe all the non-couriers didn't make it to the checkpoint I manned...cause, it seemed to me to only be out of towners and Boston folks that I see working downtown on a daily basis.

Ouch. So after dropping my lock on the start, I lost everyone. I went back with Gmaps Pedometer and I think I added an extra 4 miles.
My finish was pretty pathetic. I was plenty fast, but that extra mileage killed me. Bad route selection on my part.
I'll do better next time. Man, I should have aimed for DFL. Did I mention my ego was fragile? :)
I've got a photo from the race start, but that's it. I'll post it eventually.
I'd have to say, it was a good time. My first real race, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting a taste for it. Cambridge st. helped me out so much.

Oh! So you're the guy who left his helmet!
As I was picking up my lock I overheard someone talking about how someone left their helmet behind.
Definitely fun.

yeah, I take it no one thought to snag it for me but I really should have remembered it.

I don't know what finally happened. You might ask Tom, he usually organizes the heats at Thursday night races, so you could ask him there. I just overheard someone being like, "Hey, someone left their helmet. Is this anyone's helmet?" And then someone else saying basically that people were off and there was no point in trying to hunt down the owner.
Why did I overhear all this? Because I was slow and dropping my damn lock. Grr!!
;)
