Had my old Raleigh International out for a spin after repacking the head and BB bearings, and noticed a groaning noise coming from below me any time I mashed on the pedals. I figured I probably overtightened the BB cup, so I headed home and backed it off a bit, then went out again. No change. I'm thinking, "Aw, crap -- now what!?", and mentally disassembling the crank and BB when I happened to stand up while pedaling. The noise disappeared.

Turns out it was the interface between the Brooks Pro and my keester that was responsible for the noises. Fortunately once removed from the saddle, said keester remains silent. For the most part, anyway.
