I did a search and was amazed to find there wasn't a 'Worst Song Ever' thread on the forum.
Lets get a real negative vibe happening. Let's shine a light on the mediocre, then attack it with venom. Don't hold back. Do your WORST.
I'll start by nominating We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel.
Words can not express how much I despise this song.
I also have a second nomination. All I Wanna Do Is Make Love Too You by Heart. Besides the vision of that lead singer on the job grossing me out, I cannot believe the ****eness of the lyrics and the crappedness of the highly unoriginal duh duh duh bass line running through this aural nightmare.

We used to have a Thanksgiving Day radio show down here that would play the "Top 100 Turkeys of All Time". It was always great fun on Turkey Day to listen to the count down and guess which songs would be in it.
Here are some of trhe memorable ones:
Kung Foo Fighting
Honey - Bobby Goldsboro
She Believes in Me (my personal sappy "Yuk" favorite) - Kenny Rogers
As we all know, there are plenty others....
well i got 2
were not gonna take it-twisted sister
that song is horrible and overplayed a nasty combo
next is this old song i heard a few weeks ago
i dont know the composer but it mostly was a guy repeationg the same phrase, the same as the title, "I dont want a pickle i just wanna ride on my motor cycle" but he pronounced cycle so it rhymed with pickle

Arlo Guthrie. Really stupid song.
My vote this mornig goes to "Turn Around" by Bonnie Tyler. Overly dramatic, hysterical slop.

Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight
Grand Funk Railroad - We're An American Band
and I'll second pretty much anything by Bonnie Tyler. I believe the song you guys are thinking of is "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Truly awful.

We Built This City -- Jefferson Starship. My skin crawls thinking about it.
My #1 of ALL TIME:
"What's Up?" -- 4 Non Blondes. "I realized quickly when I knew I should?" Huh? What the hell does that mean?

LOL! That's funny as hell. I remember an old VH1 show where they totally trashed that video. A crazy woman in a Cat in the Hat hat singing "I go outside and scream at the top of my lungs "What's going on???!!" I think she's long since been locked away and good riddance.

MacArthur Park - Is there a worse song ?
MacArthur Park
Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
[break]
There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why
[extended break]
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
Oh no!!

Maynard Ferguson did a smokin' live instrumental version of MacArthur Park on a double album called "Live at Jimmy's" waaay back in the 70s. It's one of the best things he ever recorded. I've been looking for that record on CD for years but I haven't found it.
There are so many bad ones, I just wouldn't know where to start. I mean, so many brainless wonders are on the radio these days that I don't even listen to the radio anymore.
There's a really bad song out there where the guy is whispering the entire song. I'd like to think someone had their hands around his throat strangling him, so everything came out in a whisper. It's bad. Throw up, ashlee simpson bad.

Koffee, that song you're describing sounds like Donovan's "Atlantis." He whispers the verses, then the chorus goes something like "down, below the ocean, down below the sea, down below the ocean, where I want to be."
The only thing worse than the original "MacArthur Park" is the Donna Summer disco cover of "MacArthur Park."
Oy.

I heard a killer lounge version of "Eye of the Tiger" by Paul Anka the other day. But anything by Mariah makes my skin crawl...especially her remake of "Bringin on the Heartbreak", the Def Leppard classic. She brutalized that tune!!

I throw down this challenge. The Fast Food song by http://www.fastfoodrockers.co.uk/index2.php
Can I take your order please?
Let's eat to the beat
A pizza hut a pizza hut
Kentucky fried chicken and a pizza hut
A pizza hut a pizza hut
Kentucky fried chicken and a pizza hut
McDonalds McDonalds
Kentucky fried chicken and a pizza hut
McDonalds McDonalds
Kentucky fried chicken and a pizza hut
You like it you love it
You know you really want it
The voices I hear
Whenever you're around
I want it I need it
Nothing else can beat it
Hot and spicy
Whenever I'm in town (mm mm)
Enticing exciting
Aroma so inviting
And when it hits
Me, I wanna take you home
Trust me you must see
Just what you're doing to me
Driving me crazy
Hungry to the bone
I think of you and lick my lips
You've got the taste I can't resist
Can't resist - can't resist
Let's eat to the beat
<Chorus>
Would you like that to go?
Any sauces?
You're so sweet and you're neat
You knock me off my two feet
You're chunky and hunky
I'm coming back for more (Hot Dog)
Your taste all embraces
I gotta sing your praises
Just savour the flavours
Waiting at your door
I think of you and lick my lips
You've got the taste I can't resist
Can't resist - can't resist
Let's eat to the beat
<Chorus>
Does anyone fancy a shake?
Shake
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Shake it to the left -
Shake it to the right -
Let's shake
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
I think of you and lick my lips
You've got the taste I can't resist
Can't resist - can't resist
Let's eat to the beat
<Chorus>

no the WORST SONG OF ALL TIME #1 in the 70's
YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE debby boone
You Light Up My Life
So many nights, I'd sit by my window,
Waiting for someone to sing me his song.
So many dreams, I kept deep inside me,
Alone in the dark, but now you've come along.
And you light up my life,
You give me hope, to carry on.
You light up my days
And fill my nights with song.
Rollin' at sea, adrift on the waters
Could it be finally, I'm turning for home
Finally a chance to say, 'Hey, I Love You'
Never again to be all alone.
And you light up my life,
You give me hope, to carry on.
You light up my days
And fill my nights with song.
You, You light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days
And fill my nights with song
It can't be wrong, when it feels so right
'Cause you, you light up my life.

Lyrics by Lee Bernstein [BMI])
I love you
You love me
We're a happy family
With a great big hug
And a kiss from me to you
Won't you say you love me too?
I love you
You love me
We're best friends
Like friends should be
With a great big hug
And a kiss from me to you
Won't you say you love me too?

I never liked that song by Whitney Houston either- the one from the Bodyguard.
What is it called? Something like: "I will always love you"...
She did another bad one too- "The Greatest Love of All". So sugary it was rotting my teeth out.

OMFG, that was great! The thing about any Bonnie Tyler song you could imagine Meatloaf doing it, and visa versa. May have something to do with the fact that Jim Steinham <sp?> produced and wrote most all their stuff, and the same group of musicians played on most of it. FWIW, I was at a bar, heard a song playing, and KNEW it was a Jim Steinham Tune. Turns out it was from some move soundtrack.
Worst song ever, HONEY, think it was by Bobby Goldsboro. I Really shouldn't have read this thread, I've got a bunch of these running thru my brain now.

"I will always love you" was written and originally recorded by Dolly Parton.
I'd have to say Whitneys version was more popular, in Dolly's version the verses were some what spoken instead of sung. Corney, but hey its C&W.
And I loved the song "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone. The movie was really stupid it
starred Didi Conn.
Worst song ever is about Peaches, Peaches for free, or something stupid like that.
Yeah, I know about Dolly Parton. I thought Dolly did it well. No trilling, no over-the-top background music. Just quiet... nice stuff. All C & W ain't bad. Charlie Pryde, for instance.... ;) Ray Charles too!

Just about every single song Billy Joel did was putrid. The guy is the king of BAD:

"Uptown girl"
"Don't ask me why"
"Moving out"
"THe longest time"
"Allentown"
"Captain jack"
on and on... he is the sultan of suck.
And
Meat loaf: he just sings the same verses over and over again, like he can't think of any lyrics to write.

"I Love a Rainy Night" by Eddie Rabbit. That song used to drive me bonkers as a kid.
A friend of mine had an album called, without a whisper of irony, "The Best of Bread." Not possible. Ack. Thppt.
