What kind of grease do you guys use, and do you put it on everything that's threaded?

Lithium grease works very well, is cheap and used on everything that's threaded, plus your seat post.

Yeah, grease and the poor souls who mention WD-40 as a chain lube turns this forum into a slugfest. As I mentioned in another post, it's like two locomotives approaching each other on the same track. Something bad is going to happen, but you have to watch.

FWIW - I use Park's Polylube for all my greasing.

Youd dont grease all things that are threaded, especially if you have a titanium frame and, say, steel bolts, you will want to use anti-seize. and some bolts you want to use antil-lock. But on most threaded parts you'll use grease.

Alright, since no one seems to really want to let it die, here's my fave:

boogers, especially for threaded fasteners with nuts. mmm mmm good.

PS. never grease a bottom bracket square taper, the grease will allow the spindal to crack or even split the crank arm, as the 14 mm bolt is brought up to torque.

I use Phil Wood from a tube for bearings. For threads, seatpost, quill stem, etc., I use some cheaper grease from a tub. I think it's made by Park Tool.

I read on the internet that WD-40 contained nothing that was bad for me, so I have been using it as a salad dressing. Seems to remove excess moisture and preserve the lettuce.

I use it to clean the BBQ, gets exciting if it is still flaming.

I've started using John Deere's top of the line Poly Urea grease. It is a green, high quality grease that the factory uses for everthing on their new quarter million dollar combines. $2.50 per cartridge, about 16 oz. Looks like Phil grease, acts like Phil Grease.
Works fine so far.

Park describes their Polylube grease as "Poly urea" based. I wouldn't doubt if Park and John Deere repackages this same grease, but JD's grease is about 1/4 the price.

Use grease or no grease as you will, but just let it go. I've got new in the box Shiamno square taper BB that come pre greased. maybe i't a Shimano conspiracy to sell more cranks? :rolleyes:

Surprise! It's the same stuff. It's also sold as Marine Trailer Bearing Grease for an astronomical $3 for a 1lb. can at Home Depot

huh..1lb for the price of 1oz. the can would probably last for the next 20 years, but would have to sit and take up space in my garage.

weird trade off, huh
