thanks i tried that but i need something that is going to be at least 300 dpi quality.. anything on a wbsite is 72dpi at most usually. im trying to find a fixie photo as well... with a plain white background as well.. so i can invert the image and half tone it.. i have a sweet idea for a shirt but i just ccant get the image that i need

dpi is meaningless when talking about run-of-the-mill display graphics. It only makes sense when committed to paper, cloth, etc.

How large do you want the image on the shirt to be? Now multiply those dimensions by 300 dpi in either direction and that's the resolution of the image you're looking for.

Example, let's say you're looking for something that will be 8 inches across and something less than say 11" inches tall. That's a comfortable size for a full frontal graphic. You'll want it to be 2400 pixels across and less than 3300 tall.

Here's one that almost fits those dimensions. (You'd actually have to bump up over 300 dpi to get it to fit on a shirt.) http://www.cse.ucsc.edu/~karplus/bike/signs/share_the_road_600dpi.gif

find someone with a vector graphics programme [macromedia fireworks, adobe illustrator, etc.] and they could knock you one up in a couple of hours.

ask me nicely and tell me what dimensions you want it in, and i could be persuaded...

Yeah, none of those signs would be horribly difficult to reproduce as vector images, given the right motivation. You shouldn't be limited by what you find on the google search, just use those as ideas. Photographic images are pretty hard to reproduce on a silk screen anyways.

bostontrevor never ceases to amaze me with his range of knowledge. Superconductivity, graphic design, thermodynamics, and on....

Or maybe he's just very well acquainted with wikipedia. ;)

Here it is in eps. took about 5 minutes in illustrator. Also, for screen printing you really don't need to be working over about 150 dpi.

It always cracks me up when people who should know better (photographers working with a lot of digital media, every art/design "instructor" I've ever had, etc) relate dpi to quality. I've yet to be able to convince any of them (admittedly, I don't try very hard) that the term DPI means nothing unless you know the size the image needs to be produced at.

very true.

I have run into plenty of those people myself, including an instructor or two. I was referring to the final output not needing to be over 150 dpi, whatever size it is. But, it depends on how many lpi your screen is, so it wouldn't hurt just to do it at 300dpi.

I blame Photoshop.

In some cases it actually makes sense. I believe TIFF includes physical dimensions in the file format and obviously so does Photoshop. This is useful when using those formats to design for print as you can tell Photoshop, I want to make a 8x10 at 300dpi and it will do the rest of the work for you.

Additionally, true WYSIWYG systems like the original Macs had a standard 72 dpi (1 pixel = 1 point, more or less) display so you knew if you had a display graphic, it would be shown at 72 dpi at 100% scale. Treat it as a 72 dpi print graphic and it will display and print exactly the same on those displays.

well as you all just burn me for no reason... im sorry .. but i also run a button co. and the image i need is less then 1 inch and nothing under 300dpi would work out as for my knowlegde, i also used to work for kinkos and nothing under 300dpi printed would print clearly. thats all.so im just going off of what i know, so im sorry for not know ways around it ....anyway here is a shirt i designed kinda still messin with it.. so tell me what you think....

my legs as i slow down, or skid/skip to a stop...

Which is braking. "Engine braking," of a sort.

I'm just being a dink, pay me no heed.

streamline is a pain in the ass.. you always have to clean up the points anyway. CS2 incorporates streamline as a tool in illustrator, getting rid of the POS tracer.

while on the subject, do you have or have you ever seen any type of guide on streamline. i've never been able to find specific info on how to run that beast. i've checked on NT and other boards and no one's ever seen one.

Looks great.

I think it would be better if it appeared smaller on the shirt, looks almost like that is large enough to start wrapping around the body rather than just being on the chest. Also, I think it the image looses something with the addition of the "one gear, no brakes", maybe it's just too much text, or maybe it starts to feel elitest. I'd leave it with just "get fixed" and the graphics.

well i made one yesterday with all the text and everything just like the sample pic. and it looks great im working on another one with out the text and just a little but diff... but it still says "get fixed"... i got alot of compliments fomr all my friends who ride fixie... you can barely see the it says "no gears, no brakes" ill post my new one up as soon as its finished.. if any one wants one of these just pm me and let me know.
