I'm Morg. I'm Dutch but like so many of my fellow countrymen I live right across the border in Belgium.

I've been riding my bike a lot since I was a kid, and never really kicked the habit. Currently I have a Gazelle Medeo hybrid for my commute (I go to work with my bike about twice a week, it's 32 km round-trip) and a mountain bike for the trails in the weekend.

I'm interested to read about the different attitude in the U.S. towards cycling. Over here, cycling is simply part of life, something (almost) everybody does to go to work, school or the store. In the narrow inner cities, it is simply the fastest mode of transportation.

I will post pictures of my bikes and commute on the forums in the near future.

See you!

M.

the U.S. has a much different view of cycling, i can assure you of that. it's popular and accepted in some areas, tolerated in others, and even looked down upon in some places. but that's beyond the scope of the introduction forum - check out the advocacy forum, there are plenty of theads discussing attitudes toward cyclists in the U.S. welcome to the forums.

Ditto on what timmhaan said. Additionally, take the time to head over to the Commuting forum too. I bet you have some ideas for the commuters of the forums too!

Welcome!

goede morgen, morg (good morning) (it is morning now in jakarta)

Ik spreek een beetje, Surinaams Hollandsch. (I speak a little, dutch, surinam's version)
I have always wondered, how much more interest there is for Dutchmen, cycling being their way of life, to join the forums of the americans.

Some months ago, when I first visited my parents on my bike, (a 15 km ride) my father surpised me with his comment: Kamu memang nyentrik. You are eccentric !
I replied : I might be eccentric here in Jakarta, but if I do this in holland, I am just normal !

(In Indonesia, the once bicycle-dominated city Jogjakarta, is now taken over by Japanese motorcycles)
