i want to put "real" fenders on a bike with no fender braze-ons.

the rear is covered, there are small holes rear dropout lugs which i can secure the fender mounts to.

the front is the problem, though.

i'm wondering if anyone has used any kind of clamp-on hardware such as a hose clamp, and then mounted a fender to that, or am i asking for trouble?

thanks

I use rubberised clamps on an MTB suspension fork, and it works fine. It was suggested, actually, by the manufacturer on the Planet Bike Freddy Fender web site.

I bought the clamps at a hardware store, in the speciality hardware section. Very cheap.

I used one to mount my rear fender on the disc side. Picked the clamps up at Ace Hardware down the street. Looked on their site, but this was all I could find:

The ones I picked up have a rubber strip on them. You can find several sizes in the hardware section.

A few bucks at the hardware store will get you all the necessary equipment.

They're called 'P'-clamps. Ask for them by name!

I have made some from coat hanger wire to support the rear fender from the pannier rack.

Yup. And thats what BostFixed's first picture was, for the record.

Another point of reference: Rivendell's Nitto Racks by Mark come with P-clamps, so its a pretty tried & true method of attaching stuff.
