Bicycle Mechanics - will campy cranks fit on older 105 BB? (137*24t)

Please give me some guidance here. I have a 105 BB and want to put on some campag cranks and rings. Will this work? if not , why

If you want to put a campy crank on your bike, do it right and get a campy bottom bracket.THEN YOU WILL KNOW IN YOUR HEART THAT IT IS A TOTAL CAMPY SYSTEM.
iT'S NOT FAIR TO THE CRANK TO FORCE IT ON SOME OTHER BRAND.
WOULD YOU PUT HONDA HUB CAPS ON A FERRARI???

I'm running an older Campy Chorus crank on a Shimano square taper BB as a fixie and it works fine. I've heard that the Shimano square taper is slightly different from the Campy one but as a practical matter its been fine.

The above post is a bit silly even for a Campyphile like me but if you're buying a new BB I'd say go ahead and get the Centaur or Veloce about the same $ and then no concerns with compatability.

Cheers in advanceWorks if you don't care about chainline and not being able to put the campy cranks back on an ISO taper spindle. Shimanos JIS taper and Campys ISO are different.

I'd say go ahead and get the Centaur or Veloce about the same $ and then no concerns with compatability.


:beer:And that assumes the centaur/veloce BB is the correct spindle length for the unknown campy crank he has.

-Just thought I would let you know that you may get away with this, but the tapers on the Shimano bb is diffeent than the Campy cranks. You will ruin the cranks by forcing the different tapers or maybe better put, you will distroy the the Campy milling so if you go back to a Cmpy bb you will have a sloppy fit.
Bottom brackets are inexpensive enough to do it right.

Just to give the numbers, Both tapers are 2 degree.
ISO = 12.5mm (Campagnolo)
JIS = 12.63mm (Shimano, Sugino)


Considering that you can get a screwy chainline as the Campag crank will not draw the correct amount onto a JIS taper BB,
I've bought a few Campag AC-H BBs at Greenfish.* They are smooth, durable, and $16.

not an endorsement.. they are inexpensive everywhere.

I thought they were different so I'll say you should do as I recommended, not as I actually did.

I put the drivetrain together out of my extras box and wanted to avoid spending even another dollar. I did end up with a straight chainline and this particular Campy crank isn't ever going to be on anyone's "want" list. If it or the BB go I'll scrounge up another drivetrain.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will get a campy BB and do it right or at the risk of causing an uproar go with a SHIMANO drivetrain..LOL
