LONDON (AP) -- Lance Armstrong's libel case against The Sunday Times will go to trial in November after London's Court of Appeal finalized defense details on Friday.

Armstrong, who retired after winning his seventh straight Tour de France last Sunday, is suing the British newspaper for printing a review of the book LA Confidentiel: les secrets de Lance Armstrong -- LA Confidential, The Secrets of Lance Armstrong -- in June 2004.

The article reprinted allegations that Armstrong had taken performance enhancing drugs. Armstrong has denied all doping allegations.
The book, written by Sunday Times sportswriter David Walsh and Pierre Ballester, a former writer for French sports paper L'Equipe, was published in France shortly before the 2004 Tour de France.

Armstrong's lawyer, Matthew Himsworth, said the libel case will start in the High Court on Nov. 6 and is expected to take three weeks.

He has already suffered a setback in this one.

But, OTOH, the presiding judge threw out the Simeoni case re last year's TdF the other day.

Armstrong is attempting to bully anyone from publishing La Confidential in the US with lawyers, but this case will lose in UK court, the libel laws do not extend to third parties and freedom of press.
I read La Confidential -a lot of unsubstantiated hearsay, it's just a crap book.

Being the newspaper business, I really don't see how he can win a case vs. The Times. The paper really didn't make the assertation Lance was doping. All the paper did was do a book review. If you were doing a hard news story, obviously if someone made such a claim against another person, you would give that person a chance to deny it.
I haven't read the review, but my guess is what the paper published was something along the lines of "In the book blah blah blah, author so and so writes..."
If they're smart, that's what they would have done.
