Post your ideas for alt bikes. Here's some of mine...


Adult Size Raleigh Chopper Replica

Pickup truck bike - small narrow bed over extended rear tire, similar to Xtracycle

Reverse Chopper - large front tire, small rear tire

Unchopper - hack a production chopper into a diamond frame

Halloween Bike - build a bike out of an open coffin, dress like the undead

Recument cargo trike!

taxi bike where the driver rides ABOVE the passengers.

reverse pedal bike, where you have to pedal backwards to go forwards.

full suspension x=mart bike with offset hubs (hubs moved closer to one point on the rim) with coaster brake or fixed gear. Make sure the wheels are different sizes, too. :)

I love the reverse chopper idea. Maybe a 26" in front, a 20" rear, a smoothly curved frame with a stub seatpost rather than full tube, and long pullback handlebars.

Also a velocino. Big back wheel, minimal frame and tiny front wheel. Very compact and cool.

but u have to sorta get used to it because sometimes it will tip on you and by the way thats pink felt on the frame

I'm building an adult size Schwinn Krate, or as near as I can get, since double loop cruiser frames are like rocking horse crap in the UK! I've got a Mountain bike frame, that came from the top for £5, so I get 15 speeds (plenty of hills where I ride!). Then I got a set of triple tree downhill forks, which I might lengthen, but maybe not, since Krates had short forks. A 20" front wheel, with a whitewall tyre, ridiculous 25" ape hangers (which I love), a banana seat and a 36" sissy bar. I'm gonna build it up next week. I think I'll call it the Elephant Krate!

Also, to get the front wheel, I bought a childs mountain bike, 5 speed. Since I'm removing the suspension fork and front wheel from the doner frame, I thought I'd retrofit them to the kids bike, making a reverse chopper of sorts. Everything else standard on that for now. I made my son a BMX with forks stretched by 12", and an old Raleigh chopper seat, so he can have the reverser as well, for something more easily rideable!

I used the rear unit from a Schwinn Town & Country Trike. It will bolt on most any frame provided you have the clearance at the chain & seat stays on the dropouts for the hub carrier. I cut off the 24" hoops and laced on some 20's.

Another idea is to make a bike where the pedals are on the front tire. I am currently in the process of creating one of those but i cant get the pedals to spin the wheel. Anyone have any advice on how to do that?

Find a unicycle and pirate the wheel and pedals from it.

Or maybe weld a one-piece crank into a hub from a wheelchair or something? I'm guessing a regular bike hub would be too small in dia. to hold the crank.

...or take a front disc hub and bolt a cog to it.

Or build a wider fork. (Maybe out of a rear triangle?!)

Edit: Sorry just now realized you asked about a different case. Unicycle hubs is the way to go I guess...
