Bicycle Mechanics - Repairing my spinner bike - Continued!

Okay, I've been busy this summer, and haven't had the chance to repair my bike.

I had already made a thread on repairing my bike which ishere (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=117715)

I've further broken down my bike. Also I called the company help line and they send me some parts. Wrong parts, but I called again and I hope they are sending me the right parts.

I took some pictures which you can check out what I've done
My questions are: I know someone said I need a bottom bracket, but what I took off doesn't look like a normal BB right? The big black piece that I took out, that is still attached to the pedal, does it look like I can separate the two parts? And how would I, cause there is nothing I can grip to twist it loose.

Any other opinions on the matter would be appreciated.

The last picture is the broken part, I need..... :(

I can't tell from the last picture exactly what part you need, but I can see that this is an Ashtabula type crank BB (also called a one-piece crank). That square-faced piece is what has me baffled; it might be proprietary to the manufacturer. You might want to contact them.

I don't know if Blake is still working at spinning.com, but he is the guru for bike mechanics. Call over to them and ask for Blake. If Blake still works for them, he will be able to talk you through it. If not... doh! I would not know who you would need to chat with. :(

Hmmm, on closer examination, it looks like it's a square-taper axle with an Ashtabula BB, a fairly common BMX set-up. It appears that the tapered end of the axle has sheared off; still not a big deal if the parts used were std. bike stuff and not some one-off design.

Take the broken part to a decent shop and see if they can help.

Anyways any ideas on how to remove the big rear wheel with teeth off the square-taper axle with an Ashtabula BB?

Also do most ashtabulas come with the square taper-axle already attached at both sides?

If you notice it shows how to remove the rear crack (terminology? Sorry still new to biking but the wheel with the teeth?) from the Ashtabula bottom bracket.

I just need those tools? Anyone know where I can buy them? I don't think bike shops close to me that I visited will sell them.

I can't believe MDA doesn't have support for customer issues. It's ridiculous you've got to go through this. Did you try calling MDA and asking for Blake? The least they could have done is given you a repair manual when you got the bike and had a list of the tools you'd need to fix it. Where's the manual that came with the bike?

I assume by "big rear wheel with teeth" you mean that big black sprocket; if so, that silver ring aound the axle is a bearing race and it is threaded onto the axle and holds the sprocket on.

Most Astabulas come with a one-piece crank; the square-taper axle has been substituted. If it is a std. (standard) part any decent bike shop should have it, although koffee brown's questions as to why you haven't contacted the manufacturer are valid.

LAst time I chceked, MDA didn't have a repair manual for any of their bikes. Try contacting Jeff WImmer at www.studiocycles.com for repair manuals.

Ya funny thing is I went to http://www.studiocycles.com/ and emailed the two guys Jeff Wimmer and James Borghese about getting a manual for my Johnny G Spinner Home Edition bike. One email came back saying invalid email address and the other I haven't gotten a response from yet.

I have contacted spinner.com through the phone (does MDA own spinner.com?) the first time they sent me the wrong parts (pedals for crying out loud, I thought I made it really clear on what had broken, HAHAHAH that was funny when it came) now I'm waiting the part that suppose to be the right part. If its wrong I guess I'll have to call and ask for Blake.

If you check out the website it shows how to remove the "big black sprocket" from the Astabulas. I just need that funky looking tool

You can also call spinning.com and tell them you're having a bike issue and see if they can give you the contact information for Billy Garcia. I heard he was the newest spinning bike guru that knew just about everything about fixing that bike. If Blake is not there anymore, then Billy should be able to help you next.

I hate to bring up a old thread, but in my last post does that look right?

Cause I bought the tool and it doesn't seem to be coming off.

On closing inspection and you can probably see it in my pictures, the sprocket seems to be weilded on to the Bottom Bracket!

Is this normal? Doesn't this mean I can't remove the sprocket from the bottom bracket unless i chizel away at where it was weilded on first!

It looks like its tack welded to something. Its possible that its merely tack welded to a threaded piece that threads onto the bottom bracket. A cold chisel will break this weld, if its necessary. Your smartest move might be to wait and see if someone emails you back from spinner.com.

Okay I called them again, they are spending me the bottom bracket with the sprocket already attached. Since I told them it was weilded on so I can't remove it. They said about 10 days from now. Alright!
