Advocacy & Safety - Safest roads I've ridden

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I must say, all this talk about how unsafe our roads are got me to thinkin'. Where was the safest place I have ridden (on road). My conclusion, Denmark. All the roads there have lanes for bikes and if there is an area that does not have streets then they put lanes on the major hwy. Cyclist had the right of way even over peds, all streets and paths were kept in great condition and most every one road. It has been a while since I have been there but I hope it is still the same when I vist once more.
So where would ya'll say the safest place was that you have ridden?

I've actually found the roads with no dedicated lanes or paths, but decent shoulders to be the safest by far. Admittedly, these are in rural areas that probably have better drivers than where I actually live, but I found that I had plenty of room and nobody there to target me when I actually had to leave the shoulder to avoid something.

What is this "safe road" with these "courteous drivers" that you speak of? I know it not...
I feel safest on residential streets with low speed limits. The faster the street, the more I want a dedicated bicycle lane or a wide curb lane and a ban on on-street parking.
