Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

You know, one of these days, I'm going to be on Jeopardy, and I'm going to say the words, "Marsupials for $500, Alex."
He will ask me, "What is a Platypus?"
And I will answer, "What types of pets do cyclists have?"
Would I be right? Poll!
I'm pet-minded at the moment as I'm the recipient of a relatively new kitten that seems to really like me...
I have none. Pets are as expensive as children, maybe more expensive.
Some of my friends have dogs and cats and constantly complain about the vet bills and prices of medicine. From what they tell me it is costing them more to raise their pet than it cost me to raise my kids.
Now that they are all adults I'm not going through that expense again with a pet!!
I'm spending all my money on :fun: stuff - like bikes. :D

I just put my cat of 18 years (that's not a typo) to sleep[1] a few months ago; she decided to play chicken with a car and lost. My parents got this one for me as a surprise, and it was a pleasant one (Tak, my kitten, came litterbox-trained).
Bonus points to anyone who knows where the name of the cat came from. *grin*

I had a hampster a while back then got a cat, Funny thing is that the cat is scared of the hampster. When ever the hampster get out of its cage, i will find it eating the cats food!:D :D
I had to give them both up. The cat made me sick and the Hampster had 9 little ones and i kept her and then she died :(

As a farmer I can have a inside/outside cat. Rum Tum Zipper is a small, gray, long haired semi-tabby stripe. Three good points, like a dog he will hold it till he can go outside, he is not a needy cat but to people he trusts a friendly one, he at a very young age came out from under a pile of stuff in the back of an old pickup and adopted me, I never had a chance. He came from a group of semi-wild cats so he has a survivers background. Wish I had his sister too.:(
Two more outside only mollie cats I feed and dads dog on the place but none take much time.
farmer kev:) :) :) :)

It could mean "thanks" in a Scandanavian language. Yes???
Oh yeah ... almost forgot. We have 2 cats, Spanky & Buckwheat.
Buckwheat has recently lost more than a third of his weight to diabetes so it's insulin shots for him. He also hates my daughter and has since the 1st day she came home.
Spanky is a big dope and could care less either way.
i KNOW there was someone called Tak on star trek.
not the first ones, one of the crappy spin offs.
NOW GIVE ME MY PRIZE!

I have a German Shepherd (Akela) who doesn't chase bikes but is a bit of a danger to pedestrians. Wonderful dog for camping, though--very protective and can find her way back to camp when the person with the map and compass gets confused. :D Certifiable Frisbee fanatic.
I also have a pet rat, who probably WOULD chase bikes, if he had the option. (g)Nash is my third rat, and this one has a bad Jekyll-and-Hyde personality. He's sweet and friendly most of the time, but clean out his cage and he turns into a raging berserker who would rip your fingers off.
we've got:
3 gerbils
2 cats
1 dog
1 canary
? fish
i work in a pet store. these things somehow end up coming home with me

We do not have room for a dog right now so we have a horse who stays at the barn and a flying rodent (the wifes bird, parakeet).

It will be two years in November since I had to put down a cat who had shared my life for 20 years. She had a pretty serious stroke and there was no chance of recovery. She always reminded me of Don Marquis' Mehitabel. "There's a dance or two in the old dame yet, so wotthehell wotthehell." Anyone who has not read "Archy and Mehitabel" would do well to get to the local library.
The cat who currently shares my digs is a 12 year old tabby. She likes being the cat.
I have a 7 year-old Dalmation named Purdy.

I'd like to have a cat one day. However, I'm renting a unit in which they won't let me right now, so I don't have much say in the matter.

We have one hyper German Sheperd (Aztec) but I guess she should be she is only 1 yr old. However she is probably the easiest dog I have ever trained. Also two extremely lazy cats that we have had for a long time.

( I cheated. I poked up Google.com, typed " Tak Star Trek" clicked Google search and pages of info came up.)
.................................................................................................... ....
My kids grew up.
My dog died. "Wolf", a malamute/wolf was born on my birthday in 1971 (is that an omen or what?). He died Dec 14 1982. He grew to 120 lbs, was no more insubordinate than my other children, wonderfully affectionate, absolutely fearlless in defence of family and loyal unto death. That is considerably more than I can say for most of the humans who say that they are my "friend".
My wife has a speyed cat named Miss Kitty.
I have a dog now named Cosby. 4 years old and still thinks he is a puppy. Probably the best dog ever with my black-lab that we had to put down a year ago (cancerous tumor on the spine, poor thing)
He honestly didn't think he was a dog. He'd rather spend his time with people than dogs. Too smart for them. But he was the sweetest, kindest, most intelligent dog ever. Its almost been a year now but dam, I miss him.
Dogs are man's best friend because they are loyal, give unconditional love (for the most part). don't complain, and will always be there for you. More than I can say for a cat.
Also I got cichlids (aka fish).

is a Piranha considered an animal, if it is then I have a Piranha, and then I have a puppy well actually not my puppy but my little Miguel, I once told Miguel, I am going to give away his "Oreo" guess what he said "He(Oreo) stole my heart," now tell me if you have the heart to give away his puppy....
I have German Shepard and 2 kats.
TAK is the name of one of the twin godkings
in the Elric series by Michael Moorcock.
Marty
edit note: on second thought Tak may have been
a sorcerer (or sorceress, its been a really long time).

I sold a lady a dog when I worked in a pet store during college after I retired from the army.
Three years later I married the lady and got the dog back.

To take a stab at the Tak mystery. The only time I recall ever hearing the word Tak was in a Stephen King novel called Desperation. It was something this posessed guy kept saying. It's a long shot but what the hell.

Oh ya, about the cichlids I have had both S/A and C/A. These are the fish I have had: dovii, green terror, red terror, oscars. texas', dovii/salvini mix (meanest fish ever), firemouth, niceraguan, jack dempsy, convict, parrot (mistake). black-belt, jag, red devil, budda and I think thats it.
What about you
(sorry took so long to respond, i had a race this weekend)
Also never had africans. I have always just liked the SA/CA cichlids beter. Mean tempers. I got a tex all alone in a 70g tank. It kills everything else that goes in there.
