Hello!
Just to encourage those of you contemplating getting a tandem and riding with your child, I'd thought I'd post a short report on a ride I did yesterday with my son.
We decided to do the "Tour de Tinicum" ride. Its an organized ride, benefitting a local firehouse, in Northern Bucks County, PA. This year, the ride offered 5 different routes from a short, 11-mile family cruise to the 50+ mile "Endurance" route. We chose the "Classic Tinicum Tour," which is about 30 miles long. The 25+ mile routes meander between the Western side of the Delaware river and Route 611. The route we chose was interesting because it took us descending down toward the river and climbing back out at least 3 times. While I'm used to climbing on a regular basis on my single, climbing on a tandem with one of my sons was an experience . This part of Bucks County is very rural and is an excellent place for a bike ride. The ride was very well organized and we really enjoyed it. The time spent with my son was priceless :) . He seemed to enjoy himself, although he was pretty tired after our return.
Given that he is a 12-year old boy, he was into the hamburgers being served at the end of the ride.
