Bicycle Mechanics - Do I need to change front derraileur if going from 52-42-30 to 53-39 (10spd)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I'm interested in changing my 52-42-30 Bontrager triple 175mm to the new and improved Dura-Ace 53-39 with exo-bearings BB and a 177.5mm crank . Both have english threading

Currently have a Campy Veloce front and rear deraileur with a 10 spd cassette.

Do i have to change shifters/deraileurs? Thanks :)

P.S. I know it's sacrilegious mixing Italian and Japanese parts, but screw it. I'm a big fan of the new exo bearings (which I have now) and I heard Campy Record BBs suck!

nope. it'll work fine if you adjust the limit screws on the front, though you might want to go to the shorter cage models for weight savings/more precise shifting/whatever

Thanks. The granny gear is kind of annoying . Sometimes I over-shift to the 42 and it drops into that sucker and I spin my legs off!

Front derailleurs are relatively inexpensive, I think the real question would be whether you need to replace the brifter. I'd like to switch from a triple to a double if I can get away with replacing just the crankset, BB, and FD.

Obviously, a shifter that shifts a triple will shift a double.

Obviously -- I was just wondering if the shift points (indexing?) would be correct. Would it shift properly, accurately, quickly? I've seen some other threads where posters warn about mixing double and triple components (they'll probably show up later in this thread as well) -- mostly change is from triple to double as riders gain fitness and experience.

The muppets and carpet smokers toss alot of BS. FWIW, campy shfters have always been fully double triple compatible. Shimano tiagra, 105, and ultergra 9 speed have been double/triple compatible from day one.. The Shimano triple 'specif', shifters like sora, RSX and 8 speed 105 and rx-100 would shift a double, but all but the sora lacked a trim function.

That's good news. I searched some of the other threads on this topic for sure smoke and carpet dust abounds, but Sydney is the real deal. Thanks.

ah well, good choice on the cranks, anyway. Wait 'til you see how light the bottom bracket is. You may be dropping over 150g off your bike!! :)
