General Cycling Discussion - Saddle Soreness?

I recently learned how to ride a unicycle. I work at a bike shop and we have one there. Unfortunately, the seat makes me really sore. It has a metal rail that goes all the way around the saddle and it hurts the sides of my thighs. Is there a better saddle that I should buy? If so, what kind. We became a unicycle.com dealer today, so I can order what ever I want from there. Thanks.

anyway....i can't talk from experience here, but i've heard that miyata seats and semcycle seats are the best.

the semcycle is better for long distance riding, as for the miyata, it's best for jumping.


i myself have a viscount.....it's not the best.....but i'm pretty sure it's a lot better than yours




btw.......what kind of uni do you have....what size wheel??

It isn't actually my unicycle. It has just been sitting around the bike shop I work at for years. No one knew how to ride it, so my boss has been paying me to learn how to ride it. I believe it has a "savage" seat. The wheel size is 20 inches. Anyway, after about a week and a half of falling off I can finally go about 100 feet in our bicycle shop. I still cant really turn much or anything yet, but I can just go about 100 feet unassisted. The unicycle is also probably too small for me also because when one of the pedals is all the way down, my knee is bent more than it probably should be. The main problem that I am running into now is I just get real sore. The sides of my theighs are bruised, where the seat comes into contact with them...
I decided that I will buy a unicycle now in the 26" wheel size. I will buy it from unicycle.com, because i can get them cheap(er) there now. I am looking at the Pashley Fire MUni 26-inch. Is this one a good one for me to get??? It comes with a viscount saddle, but I will have them swap it for a more comfortable one if you think I should. I don't necessarely want to go off road unicycling(yet) but I want to be able to cruise around town without getting too "uncomfortable" and maybe learn to do some tricks! I have been mountain biking for years, but this seems like it would be way more fun!! I am 17 years old now, and almost 18. I am about 5'10"

good work.....once you can ride a bit riding a uni becomes awsome. i learned to ride about a year ago now, and i can do a few tricks, so you can get the hang of it fairely quickly.

anyway about your uni....pashley is supposed to b a good uni....you can try the viscount seat if you want, it won't hurt your thighs (the uni i learned to ride on did the same thing) but the viscount will probably hurt your behind when you go on longer rides

hey, i had the same problem man...with the same seat.. the "savage" those seats suck, i just posted a thread on getting a new seat too...this helped me out alot!!!
