It was hot but it was between watching my grown son sit at the computer all day unshaven, or get out the door to the bike park for some trail riding. I've ridden very gentle paved trails and it was easy and I had a hankering for some quiet natural surroundings. Was I ever surprised when I attempted trail riding on technical trails for the first time. It was hard packed sand covered with pine needles. Huge tree roots every few inches, uphill, downhill. Avoiding running into trees every few feet was another challenging experience.

My Trek Navigator was designed for rail trails and hard packed paved and nothing quite as techincal as this so I went on to something a little less challening but challenging nonetheless. I wound up circling a beautiful lake and I would love to have stopped and just hung out to gaze and bird watch but it was too hot and there was no breeze. It was a nice 5 mile ride that went very quickly and I had a great time. This will be a winter spot for me to go every now and then

My hat's off to you mountain bikers. It takes guts to ride some of those trails.

As you ride more you will learn how to get through the technical stuff and you will enjoy the ride even more. As for it being to hot, hummmm, why not just jump in the lake?:D

It's great to hear that you tried some trail riding. One of the secrets to MTB is "Picking your Line" This is studying the terrain and looking ahead for Obstacles. You want to be ready for that next root, log, or turn way before you even reach it. Before you know it you'll be floating over those roots like there little twigs and jumping 4 ft drops.

When are you going to buy that New Race Ready, Full Suspension Mtb Bike? I bet DirtBikedude could build you up something Sweet like his Kona.......:D
