For someone interested in racing, it seems (at least from some of the posts) that the bars tend to be a bit closer to saddle height than with a road bike.

How about frame size? Do people stick with the same frame size or perhaps go a bit smaller for easier exit from the saddle?

It looks like the Cannodale Cyclocross bikes do have a higher bottom bracket. I read the article that was recommended, however, if you are considering a Cannondale, I'd recommend riding before you buy. I'm currently in the process of getting a cx bike. I ride a 56-58 size cannondale, but if you look at the standover height on the website, the 56 cx bike has a higher overall top tube height than even the 58 cm road frame. I might have to move down to a 54 to be able to standover the bike. So check the manufacturer before you buy if you can't ride the bike before purchasing.

I ride a 61cm road frame and a 59 Redline cross frame, you need to look at the toptube lenght make that the same as your road. most cross bike do have a higher BB.
