I am trying to get an idea what meals that you consume prior to riding are consisted of. I dont think a bud is the best idea, I need to change my habbits.
thanks
A Bud is only about 110 calories if my memory serves me right. That would only cover the first 5-10 minutes of a decent ride. You are sure to need more than one.

For a 40 - 50 mile ride I usually eat a bannana beforehand. At about 20 miles I'll consume a gel. I drink 2 24oz sports drinks and 1 24oz water. Works for me.
If I go longer I usually eat a clif bar beforehand also and maybe add another gel during the ride.
Bring a few gels, if you feel like you are bonking have another.

Yea I usually start with a 6-pack, hit up the bodega while riding and slam a colt45.
usually end up with a nice long 3 mile ride.

How about for meals that are 3-4 hours before hand?

I put Bass Ale in a water bottle once. Big mistake.
I dont do a preride meal. I just make sure i've eaten what im supposed to in the course of a normal day. It works out that my mid afternoon snack is 3-4 hrs before riding.
On the weekends, i roll out for a 3-4 hr rides on a bagel and feed on gels and gatorade while im on the go. I refuel when i get home makeing sure i eat a fair bit or carbs within an 1hr of finishing the ride. I dont do well eating big before a ride. I have taken small paninni sandwiches with me on rides and they are great!
Didn't Merckx and the riders of his time drink beer out of their water bottles?

I doubt it. Unless it was flat beer. Thats the problem with beer in a water bottle. Its gets shaken up.
For a morning ride I'll usually have a big bowl of oatmeal with honey, fruit, and skim milk. (God, that sounds like an old man's breakfast, doesn't it?)
That's usually enough for 30 or 40. Any farther and I'll throw a clifbar in my jersey pocket.

I don't change my eating habits for workouts, I just plan to eat during the workouts if needed. I don't think it would be in your best interest to change what you eat just prior to doing a hard ride/race, could lead to some stomach issues.

I have developed a system to keep beers cold and to isolate vibrations coming from the bike frame and road. Look for it in stores soon.

As far as I know you can't store cans of beer inside a camelbak. I'm talking about ones that go in bottle cages.
