Bicycle Mechanics - i might have a problem, help requested

I`ve got a Pro - flex 856 and i`m rebuilding it know.

When i started to place my front derailleur, there where several problems.

* I could not get the derailleur in line with my chainrings.

* I could not get the derailleur at the right high, without hitting the back section of my bike.

So if my rear shock bumps in, the back section hits my derailleur.

I`ts a 97` XT front derailleur and a 01` XT crank with 44-34-22 chainrings.

Are there any bikers or 856 owners with the same problems?

Any tips or solutions are welcome!

Toolfreak, I did notice something in a pic of the bike. The 856 uses a top pull, top swing, front der. If you replaced it with a der. that the clamp is lower than the original spec this may have something to do with it. I am kinda stumped here this problem should not occur. I don't see how the rear swingarm can hit the cage. A lower positioned clamp on the front der. may be contacting the spot where the swingarm mates to the frame. I don't know I am just guessing here. I hope you solve this.

The derailleur was original on the bike, so that's not the problem, but I've changed my cranks and the outer chainring is bigger than the original one.

So the front derailleur must be placed higher to get the chain on the outer chainring, at that place he hits th "swingarm".

Today I tried to place the derailleur right and I've got about 0.5 mm space between the "swingarm" and the derailleur.

Well that`s enough for me!

So this week I can go on with building my bike, yeah baby!
