Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Looking to get a fixie... good resources?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've perused the threads here enough to know that I'd like to get myself a fixie.

I'm a daily commuter that thinks it would be neat to have one for the times when I don't want to clip in or bring shoes along, plus I think they would be fun to ride to work when the weather is nice and I want to shred my legs.

Anyway, I'm looking for webpages detailing the "old road bike to fixie conversion" thing for us DIYers (isn't every fixie rider a DIYer?). Also, since I haven't bought any parts yet, are there certain things I should look out for, stuff like I know that semi-horizontal dropouts are prefered, etc.

Finally, where can I look for a good project bike? I'm in Atlanta, and the criagslist kinda sucks here, but I scour it every day. Pawn shops are real hit or miss and I haven't seen a frame or complete that look worthy (looking for lugged). Should I suck it up and go ebay? I loathe ebay...

Thanks guys and gals!
