Hello everyone! I'm glad I found this place. Hope it will give me the motivation I need to ride more. I'm 45 and I started riding about 5-6 years ago and loved it. I enjoy all the bike events I've gone to. In fact I'm now helping coordinate a tour in my area. It's hard to convince some people that cycling 40-50 miles can be fun. Just fun.....you don't have to raise money to ride that far.

I ride an old ATP Vision recumbent. Have my Giant road bike hanging in my garage yet. Hate to part with it....I developed carpal tunnel and just can't ride it. Maybe it would look good hanging in my livingroom! Hang lights on it and put it in the window for Christmas! I'm rambling........:)

Welcome to bikeforums, karen! How close is Edon to Toledo? I get out that way once in awhile. I live near Cleveland.

Toledo is about an hour and a half east of me. Maybe 70-80 miles. I know it takes exactly an hour and a half to get to Toledo Hospital. My mother was there for several months earlier this year. I know that route well!
I've done several bike tours over that way sponsered by the Hosteling group and the Toledo Area Bicyclists. I here northeast Ohio is full of nice bike trails. I'd like to ride the Towpath Trail sometime. Do you know if this is all paved? I ride a Vision recumbent now and it dosen't handle well on loose stone.

The Pretenders:

I went back to Ohio but my city was gone. There was no train station, there was no downtown.
South Howard had disappeared, all my favorite places.
My city had been pulled down, reduced to parking spaces.
Hey, ho, where’d you go, Ohio?

Well, I went back to Ohio but my family was gone.
I stood on the back porch, there was nobody home.
I was stunned and amazed, my childhood memories
slowly swirled past like the wind through the trees.
Hey, ho, where’d you go, Ohio?

I went back to Ohio but my pretty countryside
had been paved down the middle by a government that had no pride.
The farms of Ohio had been replaced by shopping malls
and Muzak filled the air from Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls.
Hey, ho, where’d you go, Ohio?

The song in my head changed to "Who Let The Dogs Out?" I lost count how many dogs came out to "greet" me....I think 6 or 7. 2 dashed in front of cars to get me and neither would return to their owners when called. Maybe it was my Monkees t-thirt??

I have not ridden the Towpath, but I have walked portions of it and those parts were gravel. I'd like to ride it sometime though. Trouble is, I don't have a bike rack for my car, so most rides I do... are started directly from home (unless I ride with my BF who has a rack). The Towpath is on the other side of town from me.

There is a network of bikepaths associated with the Cleveland Metroparks. Those are nice and smooth (paved), but highly traveled by runners, dog-walkers, and inline skaters as well as bikes. Lately, I've taken to riding on the Parkway (road) that runs through the parks.

I ride a MTB with semi-slicks, but I'm beginning to consider the possibility of a road bike since that's where I tend to ride. If you're ever willing to part with that Giant, let me know. ;) What size is it? :)

Sorry for the delay. I had a bike event to take care of in my neighborhood.....plus I went back to work. I was laid off for a while. Anyway....

The bike is a blue, 14 speed Giant Perigee, size 58 cm. I got it used and it looked brand new except for the fact that the handlebars were turned upside down and it had a BIG springy Shcwinn seat on it! I'm guessing the previous owner was uncomfortable riding it. 58 is kinda long for me, but with the aero bar I added allowed me to ride at least 50 miles with out too much discomfort. I've got a carpal tunnel thing going on.

I keep trying to tell people that road bikes are easier to ride on the road than mountain bikes, but it seems everyone around here shops at Wal-Mart & K-Mart for their bikes. They wind up with a big heavy bike to ride around town and that's as far as they can go. Can't find anyone who wants to venture out and ride 20-30 miles.

Hey: Pleased to meet you. I am from Rhode Island. Hopefully, we will have some nice foliage to see. It has been a long hot summer and I am looking to fall riding. Hoping to talk soon. :)
