I just started riding, since I was a kid that is, back in June of this year. Since I was new - the LBS guy and I agreed that we should go with a hybrid-type bike. I bought a Sedona DX, and as much as I love it, I wish I had a road bike. Since I am a pretty massive dude - think 6'6" out of shape offensive lineman - I guess it is a good thing I am not perched over razor thin tires.

I got into this for the exercise / life style change (get more active) and I am finding myself getting majorly addicted. Already I have added Aero bars to my bike, and am trying to get up the nerve to buy cleats and new pedals. Of course finding size 14 pedals wont be easy :)

I stick to the paved trails, or on my morning (4am) rides I cruise my neighborhood, and I am trying to stick to about 20 + miles a week, building up as much as time and weather permit. With some persistence, I will ride through the winter and start thinking road bike next year :)

I have lurked on this group for a couple of weeks, prob will start posting soon - LOTS of newbie questions, especially about cycling and asthma, the challenges of being a BIG load on two wheels, rules of the road (real road), etc. Sounds like everybody here is 150 lbs and bikes 900 miles a week, but you had to have started somewhere :)

My name comes from my profession - computer geek - so I sit in a chair all day. You see why I need a lifestyle change :D

Welcome to the forums! :) Great to hear you are enjoying the cycling, keep it up! :)

As a computer geek, if you're interested in a distributed-computing project, I'm going to establish a Folding@Home team named Team BikeForums and see if anyone around here is interested in participating. First work unit is... 21% done. We are going to be team #10786. I'll post more info in the Lounge when we're officially on the charts :)

Well, stick around a little longer and you will read about folks who were 410 lbs, and have lost 150 or so and still losing more. I am 6 feet and weigh 230 lbs, and there are a whole lot of us who do not weigh 150 pounds are are definitely NOt lance!!

And, you are right - a road bike IS more fun. Somthing for you to look forward to.

I think a mtn bike is like a Jeep, a road bike is like a good sports car and a hybrid is like a Buick. I ride both a mtn bike and a road bike. I love them both, but for different reasons.

This morning on my road bike as I rode to church, I managed to top a hill at 14 miles per hour which I usually just barely make at 10 mph. There is just a great feeling about that, for some reason!!

Have fun, most of all!! Yes, it IS addicting.

Hello Rolling Geek. It didn't take you long to get the road bike bug. I ride both trails and road. The road bike is my favorite if I had to choose. My hybrid is like an SUV to me. Functional and versatile, it has it's star points. The road bike is more like a two seater imported sports car. All sleek and shiney with no other purpose than to take possession of the road.

You'll get your road bike. Not to worry. Just about everybody rides these days with the materials available. Welcome to the Forums.

Hey! And welcome to the forums.

191 pounds here and averaging only 10 miles per day. Sarted last September at 246 pounds.

Interestingly, my LBS ecommended the Sedona DX to my wife and I and we both bought one.

Now, nearly a year later after 1000 miles or so and looking at many posts in this forum, I have the road bike bug.

It's my birthday this month and the wife has asked "What was that new bike you were talking about?" Sooooo maybe. Just maybe.

I'm just looking at an OCR1 though. I'm not planning on racing.

Again, welcome to the forums.

Carl

I'm curious - did you pull the suspension seat pole off of the bike ?

I was bottoming out the shocks - so I had to rachet the seat up way high. Once I replaced it with a stiff seat pole - it was much better.

Thanks for the welcome.
