Foo - Is Ford Fusion SUV?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I need for my new job a car. I refused Toyota Land Cruiser and selected Ford Fusion.
Still I feel a bit ashamed. Maybe I still had to select Opel Corsa with the engine 1.2 liters, instead of Ford Fusion 1.4 liters. But Opel has too small wheels and I will have to drive at countryside too.
Besides Ford Fusin looks like SUV to me now. Any comments?

Ew american made cars are *****. They're poorly made nowadays, straight up. Buy a Honda or a Toyota. Kind of funny, but the Honda Element is built in America and has a higher percentage of American parts that most "American" cars.
Wheres the bunny when you need one?

Euro Ford Fusion (http://www.ford.co.uk/ns7/fusion%20/-/-) is a totally different car to the US Ford Fusion.
I think it looks like a great little car. Versatile design with good fuel economy. I wouldn't call it an SUV, more of a tall hatchback (like a Toyota Matrix).

I was looking at the US on Yahoo, and all I could think was this guy is on crack, it is a 4 door sedan!

US Ford Fusion is a smaller Taurus and is a Taurus replacement.
Euro Fusion weights about 3,600 lbs. So more than a hatchback and less than a SUV. Most sedans weigh between 2,500 to 3,000 for a Jetta GLS. About 900 lbs more than a Toyota Matrix.
Looks like an Euro crossover vehicle.

They market it as an Urban Activity Vehicle.
Not sure where you got the weights. The heaviest 1.4 model per Ford specs is 1176kg / 2593lbs (lighter than the lightest Matrix). 13inches less length than a Toyota Matrix, 2 inches less height, 2 inches narrower.
I lived without car for quite a while. But now this is the condition at new work. I was suggested the Toyota Land Cruiser. Not new, about 3 years old. But it is huge. So I selected new Ford Fusion. It is assembled in Germany. It costs more than 16 000 euro. Sigh...
As for other Toyotas - the smallest one now is Corola. It assembled in Turkey. And it is also very big.

Well I didn't know this guy was referring to Europe at first. My clue should have been his reference to Opels in the thread. My bad.
Anywho, I still stand by my hatred of Ford. I'm not a fan of GM either.

Sorry to tell you this but all Hondas and Toyotas we get except the Honda Insight and Honda S2000 are made in the US, most Hondas are made in AL, and Toyotas are mostly made in KY.
Also VW's are made in Mexico, 90% of Chryslers are made in Mexico, and Nissans are made in the US and Mexico.

BMW SUVs and Z-series are made in South Carolina, even the Euro models.
Mercedes-Benz ML-class SUVs are made in Alabama.
Hondas also has an auto plant in Ohio, and a small engine/equipment plant in South Carolina.
Hyundai just opened a Mississippi facility.
Honda even EXPORTS cars to Japan from Ohio.
Toyota also has a plant in California.
Bigger question, what is an AMerican made car? NASCAR has a rule about an approved model be American made, and the Toyota Tundra is approved for racing in NASCAR.

Good info Dan, sure makes you double think about American cars :P

Boy are you off track! As noted above many of the best high end cars on the road are now MADE (assembled, parts built, etc) right here in America. So much for that.
Also, the general concensus among automotive experts today is that American cars are every bit as good - quality wise - as Japanese cars. Perceptions, however are slower to change and since American car companies did indeed have crappy cars for so long through the 60s, 70s, 80s, lots of people are leary of trying one even if they aren't brand loyal.
Strangely, I find todays Japanese cars all look the same. Kind of like US cars of the late 80s. You couldn't tell one from the other. Some Euro cars are blending in, too, so to get truly unique or edgy cars, you have to look at the American makers. Dodge Ram, Chevy SST, Chrysler PT cruiser, Viper, Prowler, Ford Mustang etc. Of course, there are some edgy Japanese cars out there, too, like the Honda Element (butt ugly in my personal opinion), the Scions, but the mainstream cars from the Japanese makers are all so blah right now.
