Books, Movies, Music & Entertainment - the decemberists

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Any thoughts? Any recommendations on particular albums. I know they are rather the critics darlings, but I heard a song on a paste magazine compliation and quite enjoyed it.

They're pretty all right. If you want something similar (but better, and older), check out Neutral Milk Hotel. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is their best release.
Yes. I'm a big fan of neutral milk hotel. Aeroplane is one of my favouritest albums ever.

I like Neutral Milk Hotel, but can't stand the Decemberists at this point. Go figure.

I want to like them and do enjoy that one song you mentioned on the Paste CD, but I can't stomach the entire album. They're too cutesy and ironic. Yet, I want to like them.

Suggestion to LaLa...doesn't really sound anything like either bands, although he/they did a cover of "Two-Headed Boy," but are you into the Mountain Goats at all? If you're not familiar, I recommend All Hail West Texas and The Coroner's Gambit.
I Heart the Mountain Goats! Tallahassee is another all time favorite album. (Also Trailer Brides' High Seas!)

I can't get into Talahassee too much. "Game Shows Change Our Lives" and "Have to Explode" are both fantastic, though. As is the song about laying on the bathroom floor in each others' arms...can't remember the title. John Darnielle just doesn't sound right with any sort of accompaniment other than maybe a violin or harmonica.
