i want to replace my stock setup with something more light and aggressive...

i think my stock stem is steel and the headset both are 1" threaded (like on older, or entry level bikes?). what can be done so i can put on 1" threadless stem/headset? can it be done at all?

im a newbie when it comes to bike mechanics, but are they installed differently as well? nothing seems to be threaded these days, and just about everything is 1 1/8"... i'd like to at least switch to threadless setup..

No problem to do...Performance has an adapter to go 1-1/8" threadless. BUT you won't be losing any weight.

If you have a 1" fork and headtube ,you are stuck with 1". To go threadless you need fork ,HS and stem.Is there really a point?Threadless itsself offers no functional advantage.

1old roadie is refering to a QUILL ADAPTER that allows you to use a threadless stem with a threaded steerer,if that is actually what you wanted to do.Which I don't think the question really was.
