sketchy races are on tracks, cat 5's have too many crashes and junior races are fun. I've heard if your too lold for juniors cat 4 or up if you can, is the way to go. I've been in three track races.

There is no cat 5 track cat. Most of the cat 4 (the lowest cat) can be anywhere from a cat 1 to a cat 5 on the road. You have to start at cat 4 on the track even if you are a cat 1 on the road. Most of the new people on the track do have experience in riding in a pack. Of course this is only my opinion and experience.

Yes, actually, there are Cat. 5 track races. It's the same categories as the road (no skipping any). You are right about having track and road categories separate. You can be two different ones for each discipline.

Velo--

Maybe it is different per region of the US. We have two 'droms in Texas and you have to take a class and after that you are given a cat 4 track sticker for your license. And there are only two race classes-- cat 4 and cat 1,2,3.

Yes, I guess it is different per region!

As for the different races, that varies all over of course, depending on where you live, because of the amount of riders you have. For instance, men's races are split up all separately here; 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are all different. Women even have 1, 2 and 2, 3 and 3, 4 races all spread over three different racing days. We have junior and masters races as well. You won't find that at other tracks. Just like you don't find that at many local road races!
