Well I'm a bit new to online forums but after google turned up better answers here than any other websites I figured it had to be a good thing to check out further. My bike is mostly used for commuting to work during the summer. My girlfriend and I share a car but work at opposite ends of town, and biking the 25 km to work is much better than taking the bus! Not that the bus is that bad, it's great during the winter, but it just can't compare to the satisfaction of getting there under my own power.

This is my 2nd season of biking to work and this year I bought myself a nice new rocky mountain RC-70 with the proceeds from 2 weeks worth of overtime. It's a great ride, and this year I'm planning to extend my season a bit further into the fall. So far I've managed to avoid riding in bad weather - partly out of luck (I don't have a say in which days I get the car) but also partly out of choice since I don't have much experience biking in rain. :-)

Anyway, thanks to those of you who have been posting such great information in these forums! Hopefully I'll be able to help a few people out now and then too.

Bienvenue Scottydog.

I remember Montreal as a great city to bike, walk or, en hiver, take the bus in. It is very well laid out.

I'm new here myself and I've discovered the stuff you learn here is priceless.

Have a great ride.

My son commutes 12 km each way year round. I used to commute in the winter on an old 3 speed which didnt mind the salt and sand. I dont bike in the winter now because I work on the South Shore and the bridge is closed from 1 Dec to 1 Apr. When there was a big snow storm I would take the bus for a few days. I found rain in the summer was a worse problem than snow in the winter. Good luck.
