I tried the Nyquist r1 at my lbs and loved it. I have always had a bmx bike but never one with the smaller sprocket, I could pick up speed so much faster. I am thinking of just buying the frame of the r1 and building it up with my own components that I purchase. I dont have 300$ to spend on a custom built frame so any cheap frames that have the same exact specs and whats the deal with everyone hating on Haro? I like to ride dirt and just messing around and crusing in the street.

And the people that had a haro and it didn't last...
I admit, that haros are good bikes for beginers, only becasue wihtin 1 year parts will start to break on it, and they will have to learn about the part and how to replace it. Thats how I learned about bikes, i had a haro, when something broke i learned exactly what to replace and how to do it.
Newsflash - Haro also makes race bikes, which have a tendency to be problem free.

I have actually worked on a Haro race bike recently. My buddy just picked one up for $35, all that was wrong with it was that i was covered in spray paint. But we stripped it completely down sprayed the painted parts with some carburator cleaner, the thign was like new.

Nah It wasn't stolen. I know the kid he bought, it from, and was there the day the kid bought it a few years back. And also I can tell a stolen bike from a not stolen bike.

Kinda like how you can tell quality parts from janky parts just by looking at them, I get it.

The thing is that I am not new at all to bmx but just knew to the current day bikes and parts. I had oldschool bikes with light frames that I would build up myself. So seeing as I am not a noob should I still get it. I was thinking of buying the complete bike just so I can have something to ride
if you want the nyquist then get the frame, if you have good parts to build around it. i would not put oldschool bmx parts on a brand new haro. you probly know this, it is alot more money to custom build a bike then buy the complete. if i were you i would get the complete and upgrade as you need to.
i have had my haro for around a year and a half and it treats me good. it isnt the bike it is the rider. my freind payed around 400 for his backtrail, and he always hurts his nuts when he jumps, and these are like not even 3 ft jumps.

Thats what I was thinking of doing. It would be a lot nicer to upgrade as I go so I could see the inprovements, and just to be a fun little project. Maybe later I would end up repainting it.

I'm not sure what your full budget is, but if you don't really have parts around, then buying a complete bike is easily the best bang for your buck out there. Yes, things will need to be upgraded over time, but at least you will have something to ride.
Take a look at Haro specs if you have some more cash there are other bikes they make that may have identical geometry that give you better parts on the bike. I'm not entirely sure of their product lineup.
I personally don't give a damn about geometry. I can get used to whatever I am on as long as it is of reasonable design and quality. So, an entry level Haro, to a top of the line custom built T1 is fine with me. It is the details of the product that really mess with your pricing. By a few hundred bucks you may have 100% chromoly frame & fork, but the components may still stink.
If I had the cash and were to consider the single best complete bike on the market, I would look at the Mongoose Team series which is about ten steps ahead of every other complete bike on the market.
As I said though, bikes all feel good to me, and today's bikes are way better than the bikes of a decade ago.
