Bicycle Mechanics - Spacing The Frame

I am wanting to replace the 5 speed cassette on my Nishiki Olympic with a 9 speed cassette and I was wondering if it is possible for me to space the frame myself to accept the new wheel and cassette? And if so, what tools would be needed? I'd really appreciate the feedback.

I use a piece of foam pipe insulation to protect the seat tube. A big Crescent wrench can be used for dropout alignment. Apply very little pressure until you get a feel for it. Check your progress constantly.

I've done it the Sheldon Brown way and it works. He provides photos which help a lot but that didn't stop me sweating as I thought of ruining my custom Mercian frame. Be patient and take it a bit at a time and you'll get there. Good luck!
