the race calender is slowly wrapping up here. there is a race like others i notice that have had a category called citizens.
how many citizens usually enter. i know that would be my best chance to place since cat 5 will have more. its is 34 miles which is less than my average fast training rides i do. how did you all enter your first race what was it like? my equipment isnt alum or carb its steel. willi blend in with the beginner categorys , whats it all like the first time. i know this will be one of my last chances before next year. i have no interset in crits too dangerous and close to me. so i figure a RR will be waht i try first.
Usually citizen (1 day licence) and cat 5 race together, you enter either via the web (active.com) or the day of the race. My first race... I was dropped in the first lap.

If you think a crit is too dangerous... road races usually travel in much tighter packs, since the course itself isn't so tight (which strings everything out).
I don't think there is any way NOT to blend in with a citizens/cat 5 race.

I was planning to do a crit on a one day license tomorrow, but I did 50 miles today, much of it hard, and I'm not in shape due to wearing myself out today, and don't have the training base. But I'm going to go and watch!
Women's beginners' crits (cat 4) are said to average about 20MPH, I just don't have it in me. If you can do 20MPH for a while though, guy or gal, I'd say go for it, you have the training base.
We beginners (or returners) are at a good time of the year right now, time to watch a few races and maybe race in some of the less demanding ones as beginners, and a whole winter to work on a "base" of fitness.
