Training & Nutrition - competition food

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

next sunday will be my first competition race.
i usually ride afternoons at 6 or 7 pm.
the race this next sunday starts at 11 am.
what do you recomend to start my day?
i think if i take my normal breakfast, will be too much and i will be heavy for race.
and i think if i do not take breakfast or take just few i will be hungry and low energy.
what do you recomend.
How much time do you have before you actually ride? The longer the time before you go off (how long's the drive? how early do you plan on being there? etc.) the more you should eat. Eat enough that you feel full, but not stuffed.
How long is the event? If it is over 2 hours, you should bring some snacks with you to eat while you ride.
Good luck!
Proper nutrition on the days leading up to the event are important as well. You should be carb loaded prior to race day and velo's advice is sound the day of the race just don't put yourself in a situation where too heavy a meal is required (just enough to top up blood sugar levels)

Eat breakfast at least 3 hrs before the start.
