Bicycle Mechanics - Trekking Bars/Brakes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am doing some ergonomic changes on my old road bike to convert it to more of a trekking/touring configuration. My question concerns the brake levers. Is it possible to use my current levers which are the type found on roadbikes? If not, what type of levers can I use with side pull brakes on Trekking Bars? Shifters are not a concern as I will continue to use the stem mounted shifters because they work for me.
Thanks

ThanksRoad levers work with road calipers, cantis ,and centerpulls, butnot V brakes unless you have the diacompe 287V levers. Flat bars typically have a smaller diameter than road bars, so MTB levers for canti brakes would fit the bars and work with side pulls.

if you want v-brakes you can check out the tektro mini-v's... they can be had for around $20-25 a pair and have shorter arms that work with regular road levers.
