I just switched wheels and moved my Ultegra rear cassette onto the new wheel. It was my first time ever doing this procedure and everything went fine but the cassette is loose and makes a lot of noise. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get it to sit any tighter. Can some one please offer some troubleshooting tips?

Can some one please offer some troubleshooting tips?Without knowing the details, there is usually an extra spacer between hub body and cassette that takes care of it. That assumes you did not leave something out of the original cassette.

I was very careful to keep all of the cassette parts in order and am quite sure I didn't leave anything out. That being said there wasn't a spacer between the cassette and hub on the original wheel. I'm beginning to think this may be the problem.

edit: This is definitely the problem. I just put the cassette back on the original wheel and it's sitting tight. I guess I need to put a spacer on the new wheel. Can anyone tell me if this will mess up my rear derailleur's indexing?

I can't imagine your derailleur was indexing well with a cassette that was loose. If it somehow was, yeah, you'll need to readjust.

You didn't say what vintage of Ultegra you are using; if you are still using 7 speed, the cassette is not as deep as 8/9/10.

Put the spacer on before installing the cassette; with a little luck, you won't have to adjust. That said, if you don't know how to adjust a rear derailleur it's time to learn
