*sorry for another one of these threads*
So today was my first duathlon, and I have to say it went really well. I will try to post some pictures later on.
The weather was perfect, about 25 degrees C with winds approx 10km/h which is **very** light for where I live. In the duathlon there were 15 other people mostly men, pretty varied in terms of age. First run was 5km which took ~22 minutes which is by far the fastest I have ever ran a 5k. Felt good going into T1, and didn't really have any problems getting my stuff together and getting out to the bike course.
The bike was 25km over pretty hilly terrain and took 44 minutes complete (about 32km/hr average). I feel by far most at home on the bike, and passed a good few people both from the duathlon, and the triathlon that was also going on. Coming into T2 was a bit of a problem though, after the bike ride and the run I was totally mental, and ran to the wrong rack to hang my bike up. I remember looking at the ground and thinking "****, someone moved my stuff", then got the brain wave that I was actually in the wrong area. There were a couple seconds wasted but that was it, threw the running shoes on and proceeded to start with the second 5km run. I have to say that I am no stranger to doing bricks, but nothing I did compared to the feeling of starting that run. It felt like 2 bags of potatoes were attached to my legs, but I managed to slog through it in another 27 minutes. Overall in the duathlon I came in 3rd place which I figured was pretty good considering its my first.
Now all I can say is that I'm really looking forward to doing better in next years race.
