*sorry for another one of these threads*
So today was my first duathlon, and I have to say it went really well. I will try to post some pictures later on.

The weather was perfect, about 25 degrees C with winds approx 10km/h which is **very** light for where I live. In the duathlon there were 15 other people mostly men, pretty varied in terms of age. First run was 5km which took ~22 minutes which is by far the fastest I have ever ran a 5k. Felt good going into T1, and didn't really have any problems getting my stuff together and getting out to the bike course.
The bike was 25km over pretty hilly terrain and took 44 minutes complete (about 32km/hr average). I feel by far most at home on the bike, and passed a good few people both from the duathlon, and the triathlon that was also going on. Coming into T2 was a bit of a problem though, after the bike ride and the run I was totally mental, and ran to the wrong rack to hang my bike up. I remember looking at the ground and thinking "****, someone moved my stuff", then got the brain wave that I was actually in the wrong area. There were a couple seconds wasted but that was it, threw the running shoes on and proceeded to start with the second 5km run. I have to say that I am no stranger to doing bricks, but nothing I did compared to the feeling of starting that run. It felt like 2 bags of potatoes were attached to my legs, but I managed to slog through it in another 27 minutes. Overall in the duathlon I came in 3rd place which I figured was pretty good considering its my first.

Now all I can say is that I'm really looking forward to doing better in next years race.

Congratulations! And don't apologize for posting - we all love to hear race reports, and first races (I think) are particularly interesting!

Congratulations on your duathlon.

Had my first this weekend aswell. It was a 4km/16km(17.2Km actual)/2km. I ran 19.55 for the first 4km. Was a snail out of T1 as never have done this before. Had the fastest bike split (28.27) as that is my strength (cycling background). Average 36.2km/hr on undulating course in 25+knot winds about 4kms of tail and head the rest cross winds. Then came the experience I was dreading. Due to an ITB issue I have yet to run of the bike ever since deciding to do triathlons. As my coach hasnt added this into training as yet he warned me to be ready for pain. He didnt lie to me about that. I nearly feel flat on my butt for the first 20 or so metres. Then the rest hurt like hell but to my amazement I ran a 9.26 for final 2km quicker per km than my first leg. Overall not sure after handicapping where I came but finished second across the line so I was a happy little camper.

For anyone reading this yet to have a go, just get in and do it as it is an awesome feeling after completing your first. Now I have a half ironman in 7 weeks so time to get more running off the bike in as that was a killer.
