I'm having problems with my Wellgo road pedals. Easy to clip, never unclip by accident, but very hard to unclip. Sometimes I have to apply such force as to change the cleat position, and nearly fall a couple of times in almost every ride. The setting is at the less tension point. I've considered filing the retention piece, which has a sharp angle, to a rounded shape, and/or use some wax as lube. Thanks for your opinions!

Sounds like the cleats are worn.

Pedals and cleats are new.

I had a similar problem with Wellgo 713's that came on my bike. I replaced them with Shimano 520's and haven't had a lick of trouble since. The Wellgo's did not seem well made, IMO.

I'm not familiar with the Wellgo 713s, but I know on some pedals, there is a plate directly under the cleat. Perhaps the plate and cleat have a lot of friction. I do know this plate is a huge problem with mud build-up. I've owned a couple of sets of Shimano 520s and agree they are an outstanding pedal for the money. Easy to get into, out of and the "open" pedal design helps shed mud.
