General Cycling Discussion - Specialized Seat Issue

I bought a specialized body gemoetry seat and ive got about 150-180 miles on it...the rear behind the pads is wearing thin and the seat riped at the rear seam where it tucks underneath. Should I be able to take this back and get it replaced? For $70 or $80 I think it should hold up much longer then a month...the thing looks like its 2 years old.

I got it from a supergo store but its a long haul to the store...and I dont want to waste time going there if they are going to turn me away...id rather get one from a local shop if i have to fork over cash again.

I hated my specialized seat. I think you may have to haul back to that store and try to recoup you losses.

I have five or six of them, and they have been very durable. Take it back to the store - a good store always will try to work something out for you.

Well another option is to have the seat reupolstered by this guy.

I still use the saddle that came with my specialised - it's a POS, and did exactly that same as yours after only a couple of months. The shape is also strangely stupid - it just doesn't suit me. The only way to get it comfortable for riding is angled way forward, and that means it's terrible for upright biking. What crap. But I'm too lazy to do anything about it so I'll just chime in this thread with a good old whinge.

I'd like to get a new saddle, but I refuse to buy something unless I can try it, and it's pretty much impossible to find a shop that will let me do that. I don't get it, how the hell do they get away with it?

Take it back to the shop you bought at. Specialized WILL warranty it for you. If the shop tells you different. Call Specialized! There should be a phone # on the website.
I've dealt with Specialized for nearly 4 years and they are great about warranty
issues.

I have 3 different saddles. My BG comfort plus is great for my mountain biking and sport comfort. I have a terry liberator for my road. I also have a terry molto for my cruiser.

Not every saddle works for every position. I went through every cruiser saddle in the store(5 to be exact) til I finally ordered the molto. My BGs cut out is too short for my road, I'm pretty sure its because my frame was a little long on me, and the liberator has a longer cutout.

Is there 1 shop you frequent the most, that they know you at. Most shops have used saddles laying around and would probably let you try one. We always took back saddles people were unhappy with as long as they had the header card it came with. If it was an oem saddle they should still be willing to work with you.

I'm not saying Specialised are crap (well ok, I am kinda), but I try to temper it by saying that it just doesn't suit ME. I've ridden all kinds of bikes and saddles before, and never had so much trouble with the fit. It's more comfortable than some, but the shape just doesn't work for me.

I'm living in a country where "customer service" is something they have to look up in the dictionary. Not much chance of finding a bike shop with both a good selection and a willingness to let me try them.

I didn't take the saddle back simply because I couldn't be bothered with a bit of material coming loose. I'm quite casual about these things. The bike arrived with a scratch in the paint, but I didn't do anything simply because I knew it would only be matter of time before more "character" was added to it. Only if the functionality is awry will I bother making a fuss. The asthetics aren't that big a deal to me.
