I'm doing a 2 week road tour soon and was wondering if tire puncture liners are a must? As is now I get a flat every month or so in the city commuting. I haven't seen anyone rave about this type of protection. Thanks!

No need for tire liners if you run Armadilllos (http://www.epinions.com/bike-Tires-All-Turbo_Armadillo/display_~full_specs)!

Of all the components and gadgets I've used, these tires (and they're CHEAP!) are the best at what they need to do. I have NEVER gotten a flat on these tires.

I tore out a sidewall by not watching some road debris (a half a catalytic converter, smashed flat 'cept for that jagged bent up side!) , but NO FLATS.

Last year I put a slime liner on my back tire, knowing it is the one most likely to get flatted. (Continental's)
After 6500 miles, two flats on the front and none on the back. When I peeled the liner out of the back of my very bald rear tire, there were at least half a dozen slivers of glass stuck to it. To me that says they work.

Sounds like a great tire, I just wish it came in a wider profile. (28mm is the widest) I'm using the Conti top touring which is supposed to be 37mm (measures 34) and I wish it was a little wider.

thanks for the info. but, armidillos don't come in 26". i'm running 26 x 1.50 WTB Slikasaurus' now. but they seem to be thin? getiing quite a few flats lately. maybe i'll try the slime liners? but, any recommendation on tires in the 26 x 1.25-1.50 size? thanks!

I too have used armadillos and found then to be great. Now I am using Schwalbe Marathons which have also been great. I use them now because I prefer to ride with 32's due to my low bottom bracket and find they have good puncture resistance and relatively low rolling resistance. I went on a month long tour of 2,200 kilometres and had no punctures and my previous 6 week and 3,300 kilometre tour involved only one. My last rear tyre lasted 7,000 kilometres and still went for 70 kilometres with the kevlar exposed 'till I could get to a shop to get a decent replacement. I now have a Kenda Euro Tour on the back which is very similar. My front tyre (a Marathon) has done 12,000 kilometres and is still going fine. Haven't had any puntures from glass on my travels with them, only from wire which gets most tyres anyway.

I just ordered 2 Schwabe Marathons. So, I look forward to seeing how high quality tires perform, versus the ones I have had! Thanks

The Infinity Armadillo Tires come in 700x32, 35 & 38. Excellent tire, nice tread for pavement/mild track, allbeit a tad heavy. I had one flat last summer-from a wire (I assume it was from a blown steel belted auto/truck tire), and it had been in my tire for an unknown amount of time-as it had broken off/worn down, then been driven through the tread over ?hours/days of riding.

Another happy Schwalbe Marathon tourer here. Come to think of it, I may currently have a Marathon at front and a Marathon Plus at rear. Nevertheless, I can recommend them highly.

That is not true! I currently run Armadillo Hemispheres (26" x 1.95).

They've been great. kinda heavy, but I'll take the heavyness and reliability over fixing flats all the time.

I went to their website and they didn't list any 26". So I don't know if they still make that size or not. Well we'll give the ol' Schabes a try. Had a 2nd flat (front and rear) in 2 days with the WTB Velociraptors I have!
