Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. So last night i had a very fun time at my local sk8 park, I got there and i was going to do a few warm up airs out of this 4 foot quarter to grass slope landing before i started huckin' some 3's, so i drop in on a 6 foot quarter with my friend right behind me, i sprint across the park a little faster then usual and air out, i nose dive and my front wheel hits the ground and my head and shouder plow into the ground right after, my friend said i went at least 5 feet out, he says he thinks more but i dout it, anyway i stand up feeling a little dizzy from the head impact and go over to pick up my bike, as i bend down i realize my shoulder felt fu*ked up. i can feel something grinding around in there, then the pain starts to come and i realize ive dislocated or broken something, so we throw my bike in my buddies van and take me to the hospital to find out that ive broken my collar bone and ill b out for 6 weeks. Fu*kin' great. so im sitting here in a sling typing with one hand and i look over and go check out my bike, it seemed ok but the headset was really loose, turns out ive severly bent my forks and crushed the bearings in my headset. ive got my heart set on an FSA pig sealed headset but as for forks, what do you guys think, Ody pro dirt?

Odyssey forks have a good rep around here. FSA's decent, if money were no object I'd go with a Chris King Steelset, but I realize that for most people it is. Injuries suck, hope yours heals up right.

yah injuryies do suck real bad, man the actual bone breaking wasnt that bad, but they put an I-V in me at the hospital and put this special drug in me and it felt like the inside of my viens were burning, that hurt more then breaking my collar bone and they say that the collar bone is probably the most painful bone to break, it sucks, as for the headset yah if i could afford it i would go for somthing expencive like the king, but ive heard good things about the pig and its price is right so i think ill stick to that, Thanks

S&M Pitchfork seems to be the common fork at my park. Sorry bout your collar bone.
sounds like a nasty break, hope it heals up clean.

Collarbone injuries aren't too bad (assuming that it's only fractured, and not snapped). My friend Nick broke his in March or April, and was back at working lifting heavy boxes and whatnot in two weeks, and back riding in four.

yah, it wouldnt have been to bad if it was just a fracture, but with my luck unfortunatly it is snapped wich really sucks because my riding season is basically done now

I've always heard that pitch forks and Odyssey Dirt forks are the same in strength, but the Odyssey's are lighter(by exactly 8.4 oz) And the Odysseys are less expensive(by 15$ unless you get the camo), and Odyssey forks have a lifetime warrenty. So I would go with the Odyssey Dirt fork.

i did the same thing 2 days ago at the local dirt jumps. came down crooked off a ramp and lost control plowing my shoulder right into the ground but i didn't go to the doctor till the next day and they said i had 4 weeks at the most... but i feel your pain man
by the way it was my dominant right side arm
FuzzyRyder
08-13-05, 09:30 AM
ohh man that sucks how bad is the break? or is it just fractured, they told me at least 6 weeks because i snapped mine all the way through, hows the bike?

bike looks fine but i haven't checked it out real well its a break though. i guess its in a different spot than yours so it dont take quite as long to heal. i keep forgetting though that its hurt and try to do normal stuff like pickin heavy **** up. see ya

yes, ive had the IV where it feels like you veins are burning. Weird feeling and it sucks. It wasn't from a bmx crash though..

this is off topic but i decided that i should make use of this thread rather then starting a new one to ask one stupid question, so i was wondering, if you use a brake plate to mount your brakes, does it decrease your braking power, and can i buy a good brake for like $25 - $30 cnd or will it be a POS?

speaking of stupid questions( and im not talking about yours Fuzzy, it actually has a purpose) im really getting tired of thread after thread after thread of:
"Im new to this site What kind of bike should I get BLAH BLAH BLAH?" Are these threads pissing anyone else off too?
FuzzyRyder

yes, they piss me off, but is anyone going to answer my dumb questions?

Sorry but this BMX forum is for all riding experience levels at various age groups [ages 13-113]. If you are tired of these questions, how about creating your own thread with a topic that interests you?

its not that we need interesting threads, its that these people could use a simple thing called a search button to search through the forum, they would find plently of information on the questions they keep posting, that is what the search button is for, is it not?

FR Most BMXers newbies think that search button goes all over the rest of the forum [by the 'rents and ancients] The best we can do is point 'em to the search button. Or do the search for them and post the result link.
You know I ain't a full-fledged BMXer like you all are but maybe I can help out on that. Just don't keep correcting them on spelling and stuff. Their mom can do that!

yah, sometimes it anoys me how much this thread is a spelling contest to some of the people on here, who cares. we are here to learn about and share info on bikes, not to be grammar police

I think that it has more to do with the fact that most kids in this section of the forum put out less brainpower than the average fireant.

So ill ask this again since people decided to ignor it last time. If you use a brake plate to mount your brakes does it decrease your braking power, and can i buy a good brake for like $25 - $30 cnd or will it be a POS? Also does anyone have exprerience with the Diatech DD-cup headset because i was thinking about getting it, I am on a low budget and it seems to fit my price range better than a pig sealed.

If your looking for just the brakes(no cables, gyro, brake lever) then 30$ is perfect. I would suggest Odyssey Evolvers, or the Primo E-brake.
brakeless will get you more bmx scene points. even more so if you have a tiny chainwheel.

haha, i have a brakeless bike already, with a tiny sproket but i want one of my bikes to have a good break set up, im really not to concerned about brakes right now though, does anyone know about the dd-cup headset???

Steel cups good, unsealed caged bearings bad.
FuzzyRyder
09-02-05, 09:56 AM
yah but they cant be that bad, i can't afford a sealed set right now
hypersnazz
09-02-05, 10:20 AM
They just get crap in 'em and wear out faster than sealed units, especially the way most BMXers take care of headsets (they don't). If you're good about keeping your headset adjusted and maybe repack it once in a while it should last a good long time. DD cups are oversized and steel, a big plus when it comes to impact durability.

yah it sucked, haha, but im back riding again. Not to my full ablitlity as it is very painfull to ride but i have basically abandoned my sling. i was doing 10 foot gaps the other day with ease but it still hurts like hell to bunny hop. The doctors say i still need another 3 weeks of healing time but I'm doing alright

i think this is a tall tail why would you even air out a quarter into grass thats just asinine.
FuzzyRyder
09-06-05, 12:14 PM
i didnt air into grass i aired onto a dirt/grass slope, besides why would i lie about it?what benifit does it get me. And if it was B/s i dont think i would be asking for advice on parts for my bike that i broke when i bailed
