Bicycle Mechanics - Bladed Spokes....How Much is too much?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Due to a RD failure several of the bladed spokes have been damaged. Checked for replacements with a Bontrager dealer and was quoted $9.00 each. The spokes are from "race" wheels and are 294mm.
Is this too much? Where can I get a bette price? or Should I buy DT brand if they make the same size.
Thanks for the help...
On oddsandendos.com, they have 14 ga. double butted aero spokes for $1.89 each and 15 ga. double butted for $.59 each. I believe they are Wheelsmith.

Does each spoke come with lube?

What wheelset do you have? Sometimes those boutique wheels have non-standard spokes, and you have to go with the special variety. But if you are lucky there may be a conventional spoke that is compatible, but
we need to know what wheels you have.
EDIT: Heh, looks like you already said it, "Race" is the model of the wheel, I thought you were just referering to them generically as 'wheels for racing'. Crazy model names. :)
Looks like most of the Race series uses standard j-bend spokes, so I'd go with the Wheelsmith spokes from oddsandendos.com like mentioned. They are reasonably priced, and good spokes. They may not exactly match the current spokes, but they should work nicely. Read the wheelbuilding section on sheldonbrown.com if you intend to replace the spokes yourself. Its not hard, but it can be a little touchy, especially with a low spoke count wheel.
9$ for a spoke... Geez...

9 dollars a spoke? Holy twit! I pay .69-1.00.
Look at the shape of the spoke, do they look like regular spokes or something special? If they look like regular spokes, DT makes what you want

dt makes aero spokes too

DT makes the spokes for Bontrager wheels. I have X lites and they are DT aerolites.
