I'm currently building up a road bike from a frame- the deatails: steel raleigh sport frame, components are from a 70's schwin caliente in addition to a new head set, to be used in nyc riding daily- I've hit a issue I don't know how to solve. I want to use drop bars because of the stability and power you can get in the drops but I don't know what sort of brake and shift levers to get. I am going to buy the brake and shift levers becaus the ones on the schiwn are broken. I like to do most of my riding holding the top of the drop bars for the upright position and I get in to the drops when in tight traffic or sprinting; unlike older brake levers whick allowed braking on the horizonta portion of the bar or in the drops newer brake levers neccesitate staying on the hoods or in the drops to be close to the levers (which is essential if you are in traffic). Since I want quick acces to braking power whether in the drops or on top of the bars is there any good set up? Should I put mountain bike style levers on the top of the bar and have bar-end shifters or should some other set up be more effecient?
