how (un)comfortable are these? I'm looking for a new sexxxy saddle, so this really caught my eye. I know there is no padding, but the shape doesn't look too bad.

I don't know if it's the same one, but Jason at Montano Velo described his ride on a kashimax njs saddle as something akin to torture...I can't remember the exact words he used but it didnt sound comfortable. Cute saddle though. :)

I rode one for about 15ft. and immediately turned around and put another saddle on. Quite possibly the most uncomfortable saddle my azz has ever graced. Japanese butts must have a different shape. It's the only reason for those things being on the market as long as they have.

I really like the Kashimax Aero, but I've never tried the Five Gold, good thing the Aero is NJS ;)

here's another thing. I have a big, beautiful butt. It's not huge, but it's got a bit of extra padding. just a little something for the ladies to grab on to, ya know?

but anyway, I don't know if that would make a difference on this saddle.

most like not, since you don't sit on your butt on a bicycle saddle (you essentially sit on your perineum)

dolface droppin the knowledge!

fwiw... the most comfortable saddle i've rode is still the $9 special Selle San Marco Regal Saddle!

but who cares if it's comfy... if it matches your pink rims (especially your pink rims)... rock that isht!

Hey! I know those rims! I saw you in my hood last week (bridgeport). Nice bike! You make me want to cover my schwinn world sport with chrome and paint. Somehow I don't think that it would get it any more respect...

pink is good. get the saddle, if you hate it you can always trade/sell it, but we get dibs, right? ;).

So - you want a Kashimax Five Gold? Well, here are some friendly instruction on how to prepare yourself for adventures on new saddle!!!

1. Strap a 2x6, upright, to your friend's foot. Make sure it is in place.
2. Every step forward you take, make sure you get kicked hard, straight in the crotch.
3. Repeat for as long as you can take it.

Those saddles are like wedges of crotchular death. I have one that I reserve for people I never want to ask me if they can ride my bikes again. It is evil, NJS evil at that.
So yes, the devil knows keirin.

I've got one as well, never used it though. I also have a cinelli unicantor, another unpadded leather over plastic saddle. The cinelli's not so bad, the plastic flexes a little. The kashimax on the other hand, is VERY hard, no flex whatsoever. And very narrow as well, can't see it being very comfortable at all.

While we're talking about terrible saddles, the Selle San Marco Concor Supercorsa is also delightfully cruel. Good shape, no padding. Ouch. I had mine on my rain bike for a while but it was just too painful, even with padded shorts. I know they were popular for track events and I think the smooth surface would be much more suitable for beast.

Don't mean to turn this thread into an uncomfortable saddle rant, but the Selle San Marco Aspide is like riding on an anvil, just a lot lighter.

i'm pretty sure that's what's on my ride currently. one of the more comfortable saddles I've ridden. I like it!

Go with the Flite over the Gel - that Gel sucks.

Teadoggg - you have an old school one.

The Flite is not for me - I got one and even after almost two years, I could never get into it. When I switched to the SLR, it was night and day.

The differences between the two are that the SLR is a flatter saddle and you feel more like you're sitting. The Flite, to me, feels like a rod between my arse cheeks. I guess that's what riding a broomstick would feel like - maybe the witches are into that. Asshatchet indeed.

you sure? i thought the aero was a plastic bmx saddle. (which is probably still more comfy than the five gold)

I sold my Five Gold after a brief ride. It was brutally uncomfortable.

not sure. it's kinda ugly but I love the removeable faceplate. makes bar swaps a million times easier.

so untill I find myself a cinelli alter stem, that one stays.

Those seats are meant to be very uncomfortable - the idea is to get done with the race and off it ASAP! If you get all comfy-like on your keiren bike you may not be focusing on winning. Go fast, and get the pain over with fast!

Honestly, they're designed for serious track racing. The narrow (very narrow) shape is to cut down on any thigh rub - When you've got thighs the size of telephone poles they're gonna rub. "Rubbing is Racing" only counts in Nascar - in track racing it's speed-robbing friction. The Kashimax's are also available with the rails only 30mm apart to facilitate this - normal saddles have the rails at 43mm.

it looks like one of those generic ZOOM/dimension/profile/kalloy stems.
I've got one on my commuter. the pop-top is its only redeeming feature.

I've got flite gels on both of my bikes, and love em dearly... I'm trying a Terry Zero on the newest build, so it'll be an interesting comparison. Definitely a thumbs up on the Flite shape in general.

i second the awfullness of this saddle, but that's why they say saddles are a personal, very personal, thing. i just ordered a terry fly and hope this will take the pressure off.

i've found anything becomes comfortable enough to deal with over time... when i first put a brooks b-17 on my bike i couldn't understand how anyone rode those things, now after 2 months i've come to enjoy it more than any other saddle... but i had to switch to a blue san marco postal service saddle to match my rims and to RIDE LIKE LANCE!!!!!!!! lol

Anyone:

PM me if you have a flite that you want to get rid of. I'd like to try one out.

Ideally I'm looking for a selle italia flite like this, in all black or white.

I just bought a FiveGold off ebay and I'm looking forward to having the most uncomfortable bike around. Fashion over function, right?

i just got an email that a pink Fizik saddle i ordered a while ago finally shipped. they apparently match the velocity powdercoating too... though i'll believe it when the saddle gets here.

i guess Fizik made an ltd edition arione in pink for this year, so it'll be oodles more comfy than a keirin saddle. i'll post pics when it arrives.

completely seconded, I love my SLR, I switched my flite to my track bike where it made my balls numb and cold... I just took it off a couple days ago. I really like the vetta TT too, Nashbar has some NOS.

Anyways you can usually find pink BMX seats on ebay that may be a little more flexy.

When I look for new saddles I keep an eye out for plastic/kevlar/stitching on the sides to prevent scuffing into the padding/frame when I wreck...which is a lot apparently.

Also, I've been riding selle san marco "fliteish" gel for the past few thousand miles and dig it.

Another vote for 5-golds being very uncomfortable.

Bought one secondhand for 3 bucks and after using it for a while I felt liked I'd been ripped off. Never had a problem before with any saddle but this one definitely left the swingers feeling bruised and numb, so it was quickly ditched.

5-gold looks good but you never want to sit on it.

i just got one of these today.
thoughts on it went something like this:

as i took it out out the bag - wow this thing is beautiful, kind of on the hard side.

when i sat on it in my apartment - hmmm pretty hard, not TOO bad tho.

when riding down the street - HOLY **** someone is hitting my crotch with a sledgehammer !
